Barry can pretty much be counted on to do exactly the opposite of what he says he'll do.

Does anyone really think that the government will actually TAKE OUR FIREARMS AWAY? I can see them tightening the industry up some, doing away with assault weapons and certain types of ammo sales, but I don't see them going door to door asking for the weapons. Although maybe I'm just too naive...

SoLow, my friend, I didn't really think that the government would force me by penalty of law to buy health insurance that met their "standards" either and that the SCOTUS would say that it was constitutional for them to do so.

I also didn't think that the government would violate my first amendment rights to the free excercise of my religion by requiring that even small business owners must provide insurance coverage that includes sterilizations, contraceptives, and abortifacients which are directly contrary to my faith.

I guess secular law "for the common good" transcends God's law in their minds.

I am sure that same reasoning will be and is being used to circumvent the 2nd amendment too.

SoLow - I think they are willing to do it slowly over a couple of generations. I have guns I inherited from both sides of my family they bought or brought home from wars long before registration.

Now they want background checks on any transfer - even family heirlooms going to my son. Once that background check is done - the gun is registered.

Wait a generation and every legal gun is now registered. Then find ways to track, disqualify, tax and hound people until all civilian guns are turned in.

CrabbyOldMan said...

Bram is exactly correct.
I have not believed anything the left-of-center politicians have said since my late teens, and I am almost seventy.
The left has the advantages of organization, discipline and persistence, all of which the right seems to badly lack, particularly party discipline.
McAuliffe: 48.0% ... 1,066,149
Cuccinelli: 45.5% ... 1,010,929
Sarvis: 06.6% ... 145,762
45.5% + 3.3% = 48.8%
Minnesota (and the rest of the country) got Al Franken because of similar nonsense.
It does not take very much to tip a close election, and Franken’s razor thin victory was just as binding as a huge landslide.
By how much did Sarvis’s supporters advance their agenda?

I guess I'll stick with a phrase I learned 2 decades ago...

I cannot confirm or deny the presence of firearms at this location. :)

Bram said...

Crabby - I wouldn't get too worked up about Sarvis - exit polls showed 2/3 of his voters would have gone to McAuliffe if he wasn't on the ballot.

Mediocre candidate, disgraced predecessor, crap support from the national party, weak response to McAuliffe's lies, terrible running mate. Blame those.

B.S. to most of these comments.
Three people running for Governor;a social conservative, a libertarian sort of; and a incompetent liberal who sold the Lincoln bedroom to the highest bidders, who ran a 'green auto' company for the Chinese, who sucked on the Clinton corruption for years and no one was willing to say HE IS A FUCKING ASSHOLE!
So Virginia, you get the honors, that New York avoided by not electing a bigger dick.

When Republicans tell you that Global Warming is a hoax, remember what they said about Death Panels, WMDs and the 2012 election.

Seriously, politics can't be honestly reduced to one liners.

Obama lied, people died.

Haverwilde said...

Nate talks, and skips the truth.
Funny global warming isn't manmade;
An Iraq general confirmed that he removed the WMD to Syria, it appears that there may indeed be a death panel by another name in Obamacare. Democrat politics can be reduced to less than one line: LIES!

Zelda said...

A friend of mine on Medicaid was just denied further treatment for her brain cancer by Medicaid board or "panel" effectively sentencing her to death as far as they're concerned. Her doctors are so horrified they are helping to raise money for her treatment which they think could help her.

And the polar ice caps are increasing and the temperatures are not.

So thanks, but I'll take the word of doctors and scientists over politicians and then vote against the liars.

Nate is strange. He complains about having his tits suckled (his words) and then votes to have his tits suckled.

Zelda, Nit is clearly unable to use facts and logic. He and his ilk have demonstrated that they can mimic intelligence, but, like the mechanical music boxes and player pianos that also mimic intelligence, they do not actually possess it.

Well, I did hold my nose and vote for Romney, and he lost anyway. Having said that, you might be interested in seeing what Romney said he would have done early this month.

"But my own plan was to say to each state, ‘You've got a requirement to move to a point where all your people are insured, and where you cover preexisting conditions,' Romney said."

So you see, Romney would have screwed Conservatives anyway. He might have used a little lube, that's all. And your childish rants, in caps, are now completely disproven.

Well, Foxy Wizard, in the first place I was responding to your 11:41 PM comment about the Judges that ShamWow and company are going to appoint for life. If you are arguing that Romney would have appointed judges of that same ilk, I say you are out of your head and need help.
By the way, it wasn’t JUST Romney loosing. Al Franken won a Minnesota Senate race because of third party and stay-at-home children in adult bodies, but even then only squeaked by with a good dose of voter fraud. Do we need to elaborate on the consequences?
Now, to address your response to the point I was NOT trying to make:
I don’t think that you can successfully argue that we did not need to do something about our health care system. The fact that Jug Ears and the Chicagocrats won is a very strong argument that most people agreed that we needed to do SOMETHING, and doing nothing at all was not an option.
What would you rather have had?
1. The cluster fuck that ShamWow and his fellow swindlers conned the Dumocrats into passing, or,
2. A thoroughly debated gradually implemented plan that left room for trial and error based adjustments, probably with various ideas being tried simultaneously by various states.
Another question: Do you think that Romney (or McCain for that matter) and the people that he would have surrounded himself with would have brought about better national security and economic results than Jug Ears and the radical leftists and thieves he surrounds himself with?
And yes, I too pinched my nose to vote for both Romney and McCain.

Foxy Wizard said...

"I don’t think that you can successfully argue that we did not need to do something about our health care system."

The only thing we needed to do with our first class healthcare system was to get LESS government; tort reform and less regulation limiting the free market system. We needed more Rick Perry policy, not more Mitt Romney policy.

Rick Perry rammed Tort Reform laws through the Texas Legislature. He then passed legislation that made people who filed frivolous lawsuits pay ALL expenses if they lost the case. The result of this was that before Obamacare was passed, I could, as a single payer, get a very good healthcare plan from Aetna, Blue Cross, United, etc., with a $500 deductible, COVERING PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS, for $120 in Texas. Did you hear anything about Tort Reform from Republicans in the healthcare debates? Have you heard about it from them in the recent past, when the media is demanding the Republican Alternative? No? Why do you suppose that is? Maybe because both parties get enormous sums of money from the Trial Lawyers Association?

Crabby, one of these days, a light bulb will go off in your head and you will see clearly that the entrenched politicians are on the same side, and it is not your side. And they preen and pace the floor, pontificating their point of view, all the while selling us down the river. Case in point, John Cornyn, my Representative Senator, who voted to end debate, thus allowing a vote to fund Obamacare. I get almost daily emails from his office complaining about Obamacare, yet he allowed it to go into law.

Can you not see that Mitt Romney was exactly the very worse candidate to represent us if we wanted Obamacare repealed, because he had no defense? Do you think it is an accident that the Republican Establishment gave us Romney as a candidate?

On to McCain. Haven't you noticed lately how McCain has sabotaged the Conservatives at every turn? The only recent chance we had of ridding ourselves of Obamacare was to use the power of the purse, which originates in the House, to defund it. Did you not see McCain all over the Sunday shows, making fun of Ted Cruz and Mike Lee...calling Cruz a Wacko Bird? Calling us terrorists? You really think those people represent you?

You are welcome to your point of view. Keep voting for the McCains and Romneys. I am done with them.

CrabbyOldMan said...

LESS government; tort reform and less regulation is doing nothing???

I have said that McCain and Romney were the lessor of evils so many times that I have lost count. It was either them or ShamWow. Are you saying that we are better off for having elected Jug Ears twice? Please answer this question.
All this quacking about about the republican establishment is fine and dandy, but it is not relevant. The choices at the times were.
I will bet the farm that we both agree that the overriding objective should be to dislodge that coalition of fools, thieves and clandestine communists who now control the national government.
Since there is no such thing as a perfect candidate for anyone, we need to support the most conservative candidate that has a chance of winning. We of the political right are unfortunately a minority, that means compromise to form a majority coalition if necessary. Either grow up and get used of it or be satified by continueing to loose and get nothing.

CrabbyOldMan said...

you will see clearly that the entrenched politicians are on the same side, and it is not your side. which was obvious to the founding fathers at the git go and obvious to me for decades. I contend that the reason that corruption is so deeply ingrained in Russia is that it has always had a very powerful and very centralized government, first controlled by the Czars and then by the Communist Party and now by thug successors to the Communists.
That is why I favor smaller, diversified, and less powerful government generally.
Unfortunately, most people are in the opposite camp or are uninformed and undecided.
That leaves the job of finding common ground from which to build a majority.

LESS government; tort reform and less regulation is doing nothing???

1) You would have had more government. Republicans have grown government every time they've held power since the 1940s. Romney would be no different.

2) Romney had no plan for tort reform.

3) Romney had no plan for reducing regulation, and had plans for increasing it in several areas.

No difference...

CrabbyOldMan said...

Yup! No difference at all.
That RINO Romney would have been surrounded by the same thieves and Marxists and would have appointed the same judges and had Hatchet Face the war hero running the State Department besides.
Yup! No difference at all.

CrabbyOldMan said...

Oh,
I forgot, that there is no difference at all in growing the government by an inch and growing it by a mile.
Yup! No difference at all.
