Travesty
I liked what one Michigan legislator said yesterday..."good legislation gets debated, bad legislation gets rammed through in the middle of the night."
The Lansing-Beijing connection
The Numbers Don't Lie
Makes you wonder if maybe we should be talking about LOWERING the age people can get on Medicare...

Do you have the slightest idea what drives insurance overhead? GOVERNMENT!
Walk into whatever office building those companies administer their health policies. You will see entire floors with cooperate attorneys, clerks, and IT programmers - all doing nothing but working to comply with all the state and federal regulations.
Medicare doesn't have to comply with anything - they just take my money and mail it to other people.
I had to go through a the Census Bureau's site to dig out their definition of "poverty".
It isn't indexed for cost of living by state. What a joke. This is just a table of states with the lowest cost of living.
Try raising a family of 4 in NJ on $25k (not officially poverty). That would be dirt poor.

Why should a person have to PAY to have a job?
How come the states with the HIGHEST union participation are the most broke with the highest unemployment?
What union do you belong to, Jim?
Medicare is the most inefficient model in the world. What is the cost of compliance? It's mostly responsible for how high our costs are now. Cost of doing business always gets passed on to the consumer.
This is just raw numbers and doesn't take into account cost of living, Jim. What is poverty in a blue state is a decent wage in a red state. And take a look at the states with the greatest debt and highest unemployment. The blue model looks terrible. And why should businesses want to stay in states that are hostile? It doesn't make any sense.
As for Medicare, it's not overhead that makes it unsustainable, so this graph is just silly and typical of Leftists who desperately point to every irrelevant detail to avoid confronting the stark truth.

I'm in a financial job. Nothing is easier than lying with numbers.
Excellent points from all above.
That said,..."good legislation gets debated, bad legislation gets rammed through in the middle of the night."
Do you mean like the excreable Obamacare law, Jim?
My step mother was from the mountain area of North Carolina. She didn't have a flush toilet in her house till she was 16 years old. This was common there at that time, just ask Dolly Parton.
Today the South would be unrecognizable to people of that era, because right to work laws made those states competitive and now more goods are manufactured in the south than in the North East.
I'm willing to bet they were pretty happy to be lifted from 3rd world poverty, and judging those states against northern ones who were LIGHT YEARS ahead of the power curve just 40 years ago doesn't take how far those states have come into account... because that isn't convenient to an agenda.
Jim, You are any idiot!
If an insurance company did what Medicare does--you would be
screaming about how unfair it is.
Now that I have to be on medicare, the only reason my doctor sees me is because I have been his patient for twenty years. He no longer accepts medicare clients. HE CAN'T AFFORD TO. It costs him money much of the time.
And your statistics lie, just like you do.
Malarkey:
The unions are running out of gas because they always end up cutting their own throat.
Do you wonder why other states, like Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana fought to become poor too?
Unless there is some really compelling reason for doing so, companies have not located in union areas for decades now.
Nobody invests in an area where the labor pool has the attitude of getting as much as possible for doing as little as possible.
You remind me of the Minnesota airline people who ended up unemployed, but at good union wages.
Dolt!
I assume the Michigan Legislator mentioned was talking about Obamacare.
As for the idiot at the Washington Post trying to equate the totalitarian, closed economy of China with even the increasingly controlled economy of the U.S.: Once again we see "progressives" wishing for the almost total control over the population that is enjoyed by the Chinese government. Surprise, Surprise.
""good legislation gets debated, bad legislation gets rammed through in the middle of the night."
We all automatically thought "Obamacare." And yes, it's awesome that the left piles on heaps of regulations that takes innumerable staff to comply with, and then they want to bitch about the overhead. Poison the well and then whine that the water's not fit to drink. Typical dumbass democrats.
Jesus Jim, put down the fucking bong for a second before you type.
We've known all along what a complete useless idiot you are but this is just goddamn ignorant, even for your low level of intellectual capacity.
Comparing medicare to insurance companies. Lol. Better yet, get back to your bong Jim, the less you speak the better for the rest of us.
I have lived in Michigan and in Tennessee. It cost $55,600 in Michigan to maintain the standard of living $50,000 bought in Tennessee. When the auto workers of Michigan came to Spring Hill, TN they were really bummed about the lateral move till they bought houses of better quality than they left behind...that cost less, paid WAY lower property taxes and NO income tax (all charged in Michigan).
But, but, but Freemom, the Michigan Marxocrat party bosses, the union bosses, the mafia and the welfare crowd have to eat too!
From the first article?
"China has a problem: rising inequality. The gap between profits and wages is soaring."
Why is that automatically a problem? If I have a good lifestyle, why is it automatically a problem if the guy at the top gets rich? Also, honest calculation of "profits" and "wages" in a Communist country - especially one as corrupt as China - is highly doubtful, so there's no way of verifying that this is actually happening.
"Although elements of the government have sought to boost workers’ incomes,"
They've sought to increase their power and income. Boosting workers' income is unlikely to be their top priority, nor are they likely to be effective at it. And, again, calculations of "wages" is highly suspect in an incredibly corrupt Communist country.
"they have been thwarted by major companies and banks “that don’t want to give more profit to the country and let the government distribute it,”
Good for them.
"Of course, if China permitted the establishment of unions, wages would rise. But for fundamentally political reasons — independent unions would undermine the Communist Party’s authority — unions are out of the question."
And yet you take their word for what you're being told.
I'd love to see how "overhead" is calculated by these folks for insurance companies vs. how they calculate it for Medicare.
I've seen that graphic about poverty rates and right-to-work states. There are, what, 26 or so RTW states? this graphic accounts for 1/3 of them. I wonder where the other 16 rate? Think any of them are in the TOP 10? Especially if you equalize the data on the basis of local living costs.
