Time to Bring Back HUAC?

Every since Glenn Beck brought attention to the "Current Goals of the Communist Party", which were taken directly from "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen and entered into the Congressional record in 1963, I have been obsessing over them (*see exhibit A, my 'Beautiful Mind' scribblings above...).

The number of 'goals' that have come to fruition is beyond disturbing. The fact that many on the Right have unwittingly(?) subscribed to some of the Communist stated agenda is upsetting. The whole thing has had my stomach in knots for days.

I was not quite sure how I wanted to do this because there is SO much to talk about within these stated goals --what has come to pass and in what form and how we can stop any further progress, etc. But there are 45 Goals. I was thinking of posting 10 a day...but, then I decided that I'll get up what I can and you can all add to it. A mega-post and subsequent discussion:

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

Obama on Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference

4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.

7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.
Just 8 short years later...

8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev's promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.

"The advance of human liberty can only strengthen the cause of world peace...Mr. Gorbachev, Tear down this wall!" -Ronald Reagan, June 12, 1987

9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
Judicial activism (or anything by the 9th circuit)

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
High School Activism Promotes Global Awareness and NEA endorses Barack Obama.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
Obama wins newspaper endorsements by a landslide.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms."
The Myth of American Exceptionalism -Howard Zinn

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."
The Obama's replace fine art from White House with "modern" "art."

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."
This probably seemed like an incredibly lofty goal, yet came to pass just 8 short years later.

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
Obama dubs the Constitution as a 'charter of negative liberties.'

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
[Obama] won't shop at Wal-Mart. He is for a law making it easier for people to join unions. His appointees [are all] "sympathetic" to labor.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
"Mom" and "Dad" to be outlawed words in California -traditional family terms "offend gays"

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
Christian father faces jail for taking daughter to church

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use ["]united force["] to solve economic, political or social problems.

43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.

44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike. (source)

Couldn't Make This Stuff Up...

"An inventor has set out to paint the peaks of the Andes white in an attempt to combat the effects of climate change. By painting the mountains, Eduardo Gold hopes to replicate the effect of Andean glaciers, which reflect back sunlight and hence heat back through the atmosphere.

It is hoped the project will slow the melting of the glaciers.

Four workmen have been given the task of painting three peaks, starting with Peru's Chalon Sombrero peak, which lies 4,756 metres above sea level..." (source)

It would seem that Eduardo Gold doesn't realize Micahel Mann's hockey stick graph was discredited along with the bulk of the IPCC's 'data.' But regardless, I guess the faux snow has a nice aesthetic touch...

Texas Teachers Fight For Fake Grades

Teachers in Texas sued so they could give students inflated grades they hadn't earned (aka 'minimum failing grades'), but a judge ruled that "Texas public schools are required to give students truthful grades on class assignments and on their report cards."

Thankfully someone is sane in the Lone Star state and (surprise, surprise) the AFL-CIO associated American Federation of Teachers sided with the state against the 11 school districts with the (obvious?) position that "the minimum failing grading polices were dishonest and didn't prepare students for college or the workforce." (source)

I know this is an off-the-wall thought here, but maybe finding a way to engage the class and make the day interesting would naturally boost grades removing the need to artificially inflate them...? Too crazy?

Robert Byrd, Dead at 92

This morning on the news, someone asked a sitting Senator what Robert Byrd would be remembered for...what his legacy would be.

Honestly, when I think of Senator Byrd only two things come to mind: that a former KKK Grand Kleagle could be a Democratic senator in the United States of America for 50 years and PORK...capturing and securing tons of pork for West Virginia. I don't really know anything else about him.

Oprah's "Own" Contest

For those that don't know, Oprah is launching her own network and is kicking off that impending venture with a 'Host your own show' contest (I wouldn't have if Army Girl hadn't called me to ask my opinion on an audition tape).
You can watch audition submissions and vote online. Even though the rules concerning the final decision are ambiguous (will the audience ultimately pick the winner or will producers/Oprah have the final say?), there is now some controversy because front runner Zach Anner was overtaken by Doctor Phyllis.

Zach Anner has cerebral palsy and Dr. Phyllis is a very attractive African American woman. Now, let's be honest...cerebral palsy (though Anner refers to it as the "sexiest of the palsies") does not make for a good talk show host. Much the same as my small hands make any dream of being a famous flutist a non-starter. People may watch as a novelty, but Americans watch TV to escape reality (hence Aaron Spellings fortunes). And, I like this guy. He seems to have a great personality and makes the most of what he's been dealt...but being 100% honest, I didn't even watch the entire promo tape...

In addition to my dashed flute dreams, The Man is 6'4...he couldn't be a jockey and that's not discrimination, just life. TV shows exist to make money.

Kooky Vermont Part 693

The state that declared Bush and/or Cheney would be summarily arrested if they came over their border, lobbied to outlaw Barbie, and made pedophiles a safe haven with their lenient laws and left-wing judges...now gives us another trivial thing to blog about: leash laws for cats.

That's right, in Vermont it must be so mind-numbingly boring that they are wasting time and money debating cat leash laws (reasons cited include turning gardens into litter boxes and free roaming cats killing birds, small mammals and amphibians).

Maybe next the people of Vermont can rally against those tiny bowls that house the betta fish at pet stores...or whether we should wait until fruit falls from a tree of its own accord before we eat it...as not to 'kill' it.

Blogo-Gate Equal to or Worse Than Watergate?

#1) Rahm Emanuel, President Barack Obama's chief of staff, traded political favours with Rod Blagojevich, the former Illinois governor, in 2006 while he was a congressman, according to leaked emails.
Mr Emanuel published an endorsement of Mr Blagojevich in the Chicago Tribune in exchange for $2 million (£1.3 million) in school funding to his district, according to the emails, which were released on Monday. The newspaper had recently claimed in an editorial that Mr Blagojevich used public funds to support his re-election campaign. (source)

#2) A top aide to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich said he believed Barack Obama knew of Blagojevich's plot to win himself a presidential Cabinet post in exchange for appointing Valerie Jarrett to the U.S. Senate.

John Harris, Blagojevich's former chief of staff, testified Wednesday in the former governor's corruption trial that three days after the Nov. 4, 2008, presidential election, the ex-governor told Harris he felt confident Obama knew he wanted to swap perks.

"The president understands that the governor would be willing to make the appointment of Valerie Jarrett as long as he gets what he's asked for. . . . The governor gets the Cabinet appointment he's asked for," Harris said, explaining a recorded call.

Harris said Blagojevich came away believing Obama knew what he wanted after having a conversation with a local union representative, who in turn spoke with labor leader Tom Balanoff, with whom Blagojevich met to discuss a Jarrett appointment. Jarrett, now a White House adviser, was seeking the appointment to Obama's Senate seat." (source)

BUYING a Senate seat? That has to be worse than eavesdropping at the DNC? This is the President. They called Bush a criminal because he waged a war with Congressional approval and they worship someone that was willing to SELL a cabinet position. And someone that is letting ducks and pelicans drown in oil because the unions financed his election...? How very progressive.

"Wrong Direction": In Defense of Obama

President Obama is doing enough wrong that we don;t have to make up stuff to blame him for. Pundits are having a field day with a new poll that shows that 62% of Americans say that the country is "on the wrong track."

This is my most-hated poll. I blogged about this specific poll ad naseum when Bush was President. The reason? becvause it fails to ask why. Bush's numbers could have been high because liberals were saying "yes" because they didn't want us in Iraq and Conservatives were saying "wrong track" because we felt Bush was pussy-footing around over there. Obama probably has conservatives saying "hell yeah wrong track" because of the socialist bend to all Obama's policies, but the Libs are saying "wrong track" also because they feel like Obama isn't being as radical as he promised.

So yeah, wrong direction, but does it matter if the participants don;t agree on what direction we should be going in?

So blame Obama for the economic and ecologic disaster in the Gulf because he refuses to life the Jones Act, blame him for the huge tax increases to come that will cripple us to pay for healthcare and eventually Cap-n-trade and blame him for choosing a bedfellow like the labor unions...who, mark my words, will be the demise of this country as we know it.

But don't harp on the "wrong direction" thing, it's a given the percentage on that poll will always be high. Truthfully, I thought the poll was good news for the President...I can't believe only 48% of Americans disapprove of the job he's doing...

Worst Article I've Ever Read...

Other title options included: Article that pissed me off the most. Or writer that's the biggest douchebag. I can't decide which...I think it's all of the above:

The rise of hugely insufferable women.

Agh. So much to say here. The first being that I wish I could meet author (and I use the word loosely) Mark Morford (doesn't that sound like a name from The Muppets Take Manhattan?) People always think I'm a lib. I don't know why. I imagine it's because people buy into the stereotypes so succinctly espoused in Mr. Morford's "writing" and given the fact I have tattoos, piercings, am an artist and a recycling nut they assume I must have voted for Hope and Change. Everyone is shocked to find out I'm a right wing nut job. (Actually a card-carrying Libertarian these days). So anyway, Mark and I would meet and he'd totally dig me and love hanging out (sounds conceited, but it's not...people always totally dig me) ...I'd woo him for sure.

I'd regale him with tales of my exploits abroad, of my quest to adopt a Black baby and my ongoing search for a gay best friend (I'd leave out that I want him to be a Conservative) and then bam...I'd drop the elephant.

Surprise! I'm one of the women that your latest column slanders...a "largely insufferable women, the Sarah Palin/Carly Fiorina/Michele Bachmann hydra-headed hellbeast of pseudo-women, one part huge cash reserves, one part evil grammar-abusing ditzball psychopath, one part sassy misinformed moxie, overlaid with wonky ideas of motherhood, love of guns and ignorance of sex and reproductive rights..."

Aside from the absolute putrid content of the article, I find his writing style to be incredibly disjointed and difficult to follow his train of thought...

I thought about rebutting another column that he wrote in response to people's visceral reaction to his vitriolic keyboard (a column that he writes to say that he doesn't care that people think he's gay and then "slips in" that he has a girlfriend)...but I won't go there. I'll rise above. I only wish this little fantasy of mine could play out and I could make him eat his words...and his ridiculous stereotypes.

BP Will Save the World

Add this to the fact that BP had a hand in Cap-n-Trade:

"[The Obama Administration's] Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who was working at UC Berkeley at the time, says in [a] 2007 video, "There's been a lot of excitement that's been growing over the last several years and now with partnering with BP we will have the resources to actually carry out some of the things we want to do in order to help save the world."

And speaking of the oil spill...if you want to read the most loony-left, condescending article ever...It's at Huff Po of course. I think I feel pretty comfortable saying I absolutely loathe this writer.

Obama: An Alien in Corpes Skin or Victim of a Biblical Plague?

Yesterday, as the talk of McCrystal died down and everyone was talking about Obama's vermin problem...I kept picturing Vincent D'Onofrio from Men in Black (You know, the Law and Order guy with all sorts of things buzzing around him because he's an alien roach wearing some dead guy's skin as a disguise). No, that's not the makings of some clever English-major metaphor...just what I was picturing as the fly kept buzzing around Barry's head and finally came to rest on his lip. Then recalling the last fly that met a hasty Presidential demise. And the rat that upstaged the CiC during a presser in the Rose Garden. I don't remember Bush ever having a pestilence problem, do you...?

The NYT claims the bugs are a real problem: "The White House is bugged! No, not like that. But actual flies are swarming the place, confounding housekeepers, irritating aides, even trying to feast on the president... (source)

I mean, I know Obama's much too intellectual to consult the Bible in light of this bombardment...but plagues were God's way of getting a leader's attention when they were headed down the wrong road...

Al Gore: What a Tool

First, kudos to the Inquirer. First the Silky Pony and now ALpocrisy...it seems the tabloid is the only one employing investigative journalists these day while dead-trees like the NYT save money by using pool stories...

Now, I know this new story pains the folks that were tweeting how the Gore split was GEORGE W. BUSH'S fault. Oh yes they were. It seems in the minds of a demented few, the recount of 2000 was more of a footprint on this marriage than the couple could endure.

Now, back to the story. It seems our illustrious (or should I say adulterous) former Veep ordered up a $540 massage and then at the end engaged in "sexually attacking" the 54 year old "gorgeous massage therapist." I do realize this is terribly crass, but maybe he had been told to expect the massage to end happier for that amount of money. Maybe he had specifically called this woman to the hotel on a recommendation for, ya know, a fulfilling 'massage.' Not to make excuses for the Goreacle attacking. I mean, that would just change the charge from sexual assault to prostitution, right?

"...In a statement just released by Multnomah County (OR.) D.A. Michael D. Schrunk, the official reveals that "our office was notified by the Portland Police Bureau that further investigation of this matter had been conducted by it in 2009 and we were provided with the reports from that further investigation."

Schrunk goes on to add: "If the complainant and the Portland Police Bureau wish to pursue the possibility of a criminal prosecution, additional investigation by the Bureau will be necessary and will be discussed with the Portland Police Bureau." (source)

Does "sexually attacking" someone cause one to have their Nobel PEACE Prize revoked, because apparently peddling false information doesn't...

I'd feel bad for Tipper, if it wasn't for the whole PMRC thing.

Blagojevich on Trial

I don't know how many of you watched this season of Celebrity Apprentice, but Rod Blagojevich was a contestant and he was surprisingly likable. Likable and so incredibly, technologically challenged that I can't even begin to fathom that he was a Governor. He can't even send an email...or turn on a laptop for that matter. And he was running the fifth most populous state in the nation.

But I digress. This is the latest juicy morsel to emerge from the taped recording being played at his trial (for attempting to sell Obama's senate seat):

"...An example is a conversation he held with chief of staff John Harris on Nov. 7, 2008, in which the two were still discussing Blagojevich’s plans to swap a Senate appointment for a post in the Obama administration or some high-paying job in the private sector.

The two were reviewing talks with union officials they perceived to be emissaries of Obama. Blagojevich said the emissaries didn’t seem to know exactly what to make of his swap request.

"Barack really wants to get away from Illinois politics," said Blagojevich, laughing.

Eventually the talk got around to a suggestion that they try a different route to convey the swap idea to the president: through soon-to-be first lady Michelle Obama.

“He’s a lot more hen-pecked than me,” Blagojevich said. “He listens to Michelle.”

Commander in Chief VS. The General

"The entire COIN strategy is a fraud perpetuated on the American people," says Douglas Macgregor, a retired colonel and leading critic of counterinsurgency who attended West Point with McChrystal. "The idea that we are going to spend a trillion dollars to reshape the culture of the Islamic world is utter nonsense."

For the most part I tend to shy away from the "it story" of the day...figuring you can read about it anywhere, but McChrystal-gate is just way too nuanced (and quite frankly: juicy) to ignore.

First, don't just figure you have the gist of the article because of all the news reports you've seen...go read it for yourself (I realize it's 6 pages, but worth the time investment).

The first thing that I was glad to hear was that McChrystal had voted for Obama. Now I don't have to have any sympathy for him and/or his plight and I find it easier to think about current events when I can remove emotion/empathy from the equation. He, a General, thought Obama would make a better Commander in Chief than John McCain. Just...Wow.

While reading the article, you definitely get the impression that Joe Biden is the punchline of a running joke with the General and his aides. If they said everything that they did in front of the Rolling Stone reporter...imagine what they say when no one is around...

"The general's staff is a handpicked collection of killers, spies, geniuses, patriots, political operators and outright maniacs. There's a former head of British Special Forces, two Navy Seals, an Afghan Special Forces commando, a lawyer, two fighter pilots and at least two dozen combat veterans and counterinsurgency experts. They jokingly refer to themselves as Team America, taking the name from the South Park-esque sendup of military cluelessness, and they pride themselves on their can-do attitude and their disdain for authority."

And that brings us to the "source." How many times have I blogged about Rolling Stone over over the past 6 years? Like the time I looked up EVERY SINGLE Rolling Stone cover published from 2000-2008 and reported back to you that there had been 7 covers featuring a political figure -It is supposed to be a MUSIC mag after all- and only one of the 7 was a Republican...a cartoon caricature of George Bush in a dunce cap with a headline that read Worst President Ever?

So now this glaringly (admittedly?) left-wing MUSIC magazine will determine the fate of the war in Afghanistan? A MUSIC magazine reporter is trusted enough for the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES summons the top General to leave the war and come back to the White House to be scolded. I guess because Obama was featured twice of those seven Rolling Stone covers... Robert Gibbs said O! was 'angry' when he read the article. I can only imagine the temper tantrum that resulted in an immediate flight home for McChrystal.

This is one of those 'The Onion' moments where reality is kookier than anything a bunch of former D&D geeks could dream up...A General to be removed during the time of war because of a MUSIC magazine.

But ya know, at the end of the day I gotta say...McChrystal, you voted for him.

Obama Wants the Art of Himself Walking on Water

I believe the Obama's fancy themselves hipsters.

Hipsters of the worst kind in my estimation --the Emperor's new clothes kind. The kind that when redecorating the White House would ship Churchill's bust back to 10 Downing street. The kind that would replace fine art with 'the Homage to the Square' and ‘I Think I’ll...’ I realize art is subjective --but if my 11 year old could reproduce it with no effort...it's subject to my criticism and qualifies as 'Emperor's New Clothes art' in my opinion.

So, now it seems he's expanding his "modern art" palette to include cartooning. Specifically a cartoon of himself...walking on water. Of course.

"Now we learn, thanks to Howard Kurtz on CNN, that Obama adviser David Axelrod made a call to the editor of the New Yorker magazine requesting a copy of the Feb. 1 cover of the magazine showing No. 44 walking on water. (No, not the newly-resurfaced Gulf of Mexico.)

The only stipulation: The cover art had to be autographed by artist Barry Blitt.

Here's the exchange between Kurtz and magazine editor David Remnick on "Reliable Sources":

REMNICK: Well, they wanted a signed version of the cover. And, you know, there were other covers maybe they didn't like as well. But I think they got over it. In fact, they got over it a lot faster than some other people.

KURTZ: What did Axelrod's office tell you about Obama's personal reaction?

REMNICK: I think Axelrod and Obama were laughing hysterically over this cover. And the fact to their credit, within a matter of weeks, that they reversed the really sinking trend that they were experiencing, and they passed health care. And the White House certainly reversed its downward trend pretty quickly after that cover. I'm not saying the cover was anywhere near responsible for it." (source)

I imagine he'd say that he enjoys the representation of his fallibility...but we all know he's going to cut out the last square when no one's around... ;)

Lou Dobbs in 2012?

Last night on Sean Hannity's show, former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs said that running for President (or Senate) in 2012 was NOT off the table. He classified himself as an "Independent, Conservative, American traditionalist" that is supporting the Tea party movement.

I think it's going to take a 'radical' pick to win in 2012. We need to vote FOR someone...not against Obama. We need someone that isn't establishment. We need someone that isn't Mitt Romney. Let's talk about Dobbs.

No More Storming Beaches for the USMC

"...The Marines have not stormed a hostile beach since Inchon during the Korean War. And influential military thinkers — including, most notably, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates — have begun to question whether the Marines will ever do it again.

In a speech last month, Gates said rogue nations and nonstate movements such as Hezbollah now possessed sophisticated guided missiles that could destroy naval ships, forcing them to stay well away from shore and making any sort of beach landing by Marines extremely dangerous...

But many Marines believe the ability to conduct amphibious landings is what makes them different. Take away their unique characteristics, and you take away the Marines' reason for being.

Even if such amphibious landings are eliminated, the Marines still have a different approach to warfare. In counter-insurgency campaigns, for example, Marines often try to degrade militant groups, while the Army focuses on protecting the civilian population..." (source)

I'm just a civilian, but it sounds like Gates might have unwittingly gotten himself into a position where he could be asked to redefine the mission of the United States Marine Corps (that's CORE Mr. President) and how they'll be a different fighting force than the Army... Given the conversations that have taken place on this site alone --the pride that Marine's have in their unique skill sets and abilities and the quick rebuttal of those proclaimed skills by other branches...this decision by the OSD and the DoD could make for some interesting discussions...

Google "Veterans" and Get A Truther's Lefty Site

There has been talk about the pages Google lists on the front page for searches... I believe Rush has talked at length about this.

I have been helping out the folks at American Women Veterans by looking for news stories each day that would be of interest to their membership. It struck me a few days ago, that regardless of what search words I use, a site called "Veterans Today" always seems to be first on the list of returns. Specifically a daily feature: Top Ten Veterans Stories in Today's News. This is a FAR left site, run by a FAR left former Marine (This guy was obviously drafted to Vietnam under the same lowered standards that Muhammad Ali was...). He is an Israel hater who claims to have been a "featured commentator" on Al Jezeera and has recently written articles in defense of Helen Thomas and concocting Joe Lieberman conspiracy theories (he controls the internet!) and I'm pretty sure he's a 9/11 truther.

The thing is, the site initially appears like an innocuous, veterans information site and not like the ideological disaster it truly is. How did this page get top billing for every search including the word veteran? I have to wonder how many veterans/service members are unwittingly directed there looking only to talk in the forums, but are then subject to the garbage the authors are espousing...

What Makes A Dream?

A sex dream to be exact. Okay, so this is definitely a subject I wouldn't normally delve into here given the fact that my family reads the blog... BUT, it's just too weird to keep to myself.

So, the sex dreams. I don't have them. Aha! How anticlimactic huh? Well, I should say I never did have them. Like never. Until a few years ago (2002?) when I had that sort of dream...about...ugh...Eminem. I thought it was strange as Slim Shady isn't really my type (though he and The Man do have similar noses), but what's one dream? Well, then that one dream turned into a reoccurring dream...for the past EIGHT YEARS.

It had finally been quite a few months since Marshall and I had consummated in dreamland and I thought maybe we were through. That was until Interscope records sold the NHL Em's new song "I'm not afraid" to use behind clips of my beloved Flyers. I couldn't watch it without getting goosebumps...

Needless to say, this must have sent my subconscious into a tizzy and the dreams have returned. Why? What could it mean? Why him? Is sex representational of something else in dreams...? Eight years?!

Philadelphia: A City That Can't Serve?

"...A nonprofit group says that up to 90 percent of young Philadelphians are ineligible for military service because of criminal records, obesity or lack of education.

Pennsylvania-based Mission: Readiness released its report Monday. It says 1 million Pennsylvanians are ineligible for the same reasons.

Mission: Readiness is made up of more than 150 retired generals and admirals. The group wants state and federal funding for pre-kindergarten programs that it says give children a solid foundation for academic and personal success.

The report says 145,000 Philadelphians ages 18 to 24 cannot meet the military's medical, moral and mental standards..." (source)

The worse part is that the City of Brotherly Love isn't alone in its sad state of mental and physical disintegration...The DoD has estimated that 75% of today's youth couldn't serve in any branch of the Armed Services.

What does this say about America? Is this the fault of technology...of the parenting skills of the baby boomers...of an exceedingly permissive society?

Meg Whitman Lied to Win the Primary?

Shocker! Someone lying to get elected. Well, truthfully, I was a tad shocked that Meg Whitman's illegal-about-face is coming BEFORE the general election. Normally politicians wait until they're comfortably installed into their new office to let voters know they've been had.

Meg Whitman (former eBay CEO and Social-issue RINO) campaigned on being tough on illegal immigration. She even enlisted former California Governor Pete Wilson to vouch for her:

"In a new 60-second radio spot, Whitman turns to Wilson, who says: "I know how important it is to stop illegal immigration, and I know Meg Whitman. Meg will be tough as nails on illegal immigration." (source)

But now that she's won the primary?

"Now, Whitman is on the air with two new Spanish-language ads, and Wilson is nowhere to be found. Instead, the ads discuss Whitman's opposition to Arizona's immigration law and to Proposition 187, the 1994 measure backed by, you guessed it, Pete Wilson..." (source)

So, what are voters supposed to do? Until we're allowed to require lie detectors during stump speeches, I guess we have to hone our own lie detection skills.

Father's Day

I was going to write a nice little post wishing all the dads out there a Happy Father's Day. Until I had an unfortunate conversation with The Man and his brother about it being perfectly fine for a 37 year old man to date a 24 year old girl.

And, now I hate you all.

Well, Happy Father's Day to all the men out there that realize 13 years in your 40's and 50's is much different than 13 years in your 20's!

"Moral Matrix" Quiz

"Capital Republicanism is a moderate form of Conservatism.

Capital Republicans are in favor of a Capitalist market economy and a strong moral order (abortion-control, tradional family values, strong military,...).

There is much debate over how to define Capitalism. Some proponents of capitalism emphasize the role of (presumably efficient) free markets, which, they claim, promote freedom and democracy. For many, capitalism hinges on the elaboration of an economic system in which goods and services are traded in markets, and capital goods belong to non-state entities [Independence], onto a global scale. For others, it is defined by the creation of a labor market in which most people had to sell their labor-power in order to survive."

TAKE THE QUIZ

(By the "averages" on all these political quizzes it seems like Libs are the only ones taking them...looking for the computer to tell them how moral they are...searching for a virtual pat on the back...? Well, let's make those "averages" a bit more realiastic, shall we?)

Oil Gush: Day 59

Everyone keeps asking WHY the Obama administration has turned down all the offers from other countries to get this oil spill under control and to clean up what's already there. WHY?! No one was answering.

Finally, Ollie North gave an answer. The Jones Act. Bush lifted it immediately after Katrina to get help in there, but Obama hasn't.

"...Within days of the oil spill, several European nations and thirteen countries in total apparently offered the Obama administration ships to assist in the clean-up of the Gulf. When asked about this, a State Department press spokesman refused to identify any offers of assistance.

According to one newspaper, European firms could complete the task in four months, rather than an estimated nine months if done only by the U.S. Working with the U.S., the cleanup could be accomplished in three months.

The Jones Act, which is supposedly about protecting jobs, is actually killing jobs. The jobs of fishermen, people working in tourism and others who live along the Gulf Coast and earn a living there are being severely impacted. There are also additional private sector jobs which are NOT being created in the United States since the Jones Act effectively prices U.S. based companies out of the ability to be competitive on the competitive global market.

As we strive to develop new technologies for a cleaner environment at sea, the Jones Act continues to hobble our own capabilities, sometimes with devastating results..." (Read the whole story)

So, once again we have to ask why? Why did Bush immediately halt this for the people of the Gulf and Obama hasn't? So I decided to see if the Jones Act somehow benefits UNIONS --it was the only logical explanation for Obama's reluctance.

And it does, the maritime labor unions.

"Why do effective and proven foreign clean up ships remain on the sidelines? Carafano believes it may have something to do with the Obama administration’s close relationship with labor unions.

“Cause this is a big thing for unions,” Carafano said. “The unions see it as … protecting jobs. They hate when the Jones Act gets waived, and they pound on politicians when they do that. So … are we giving in to unions and not doing everything we can, or is there some kind of impediment that we don't know about?" (source)

Today is day 59 of the oil spill --that means we could be two months in tot he projected cleanup with foreign aid...with only 30 to go... If we do find that the steadfast adherence to the Jones Act was in deference to labor unions and people and wildlife suffer...?

So to all the people saying, "Well, really, what could Obama do?!" Here's something he should have done on DAY ONE.

Who Will Defend the Sunderlands Now?

Many of you took umbrage with my criticism of 16 year old sailor Abby Sunderland's parents for allowing her to set off on this extremely dangerous expedition while she is only mentally capable of utilizing about 20% of her reasoning capabilities (aka a teenager)...

So I wonder what the consensus will be now. Now that we learn that Mommy Sunderland is pregnant with child number eight (move over Jon and Kate) and the family is broke. And, surprise, surprise...there is now a REALITY SHOW contract in the mix.

"Standing in the driveway outside his home, Sunderland explained the theme he envisioned for the show.

"We thought it might be a good idea if it was encouraging to kids to get out there and do things," he said. Sunderland said he didn't initially get many bites.

But Magnetic Entertainment of Studio City, Calif., is already promoting "Adventures in Sunderland" and "Abby's Journey," a documentary, on its Web site. The studio didn't reply to e-mails and calls for comment yesterday.

Sunderland insists Abby's trip wasn't just a stunt. The reality show was, he said, "the last thing on my mind
..." (source)

Please tell me, with 10 mouths to feed and a large check looming in the distance...how do you ensure it's not clouding your judgment? How do you ensure you're not putting risk on your children's soldiers hoping they could provide when you couldn't...?

I didn't like these parents when I wrote the first post and I like them even less now. Sometimes it's the ability to SAY NO that makes you a good parent.

This Story Will Never Be Topped.

After reading the article about the National Spelling Bee being protested ("They are the leaders of the spelling-reform movement, a passionate but sporadic 800-year-old campaign to simplify English orthography. In its long and failure-ridden history, the movement has tried to convince an indifferent public of the need for a spelling system based on pronunciation."), I commented to someone that recently it's been hard to differentiate real stories from those one would find over at The Onion.

And that was before I read this:

"...A German student "mooned" a group of Hell's Angels and hurled a puppy at them before escaping on a stolen bulldozer, police have said.

The man drove up to a Hell's Angels clubhouse near Munich, wearing only a pair of shorts and carrying a puppy.

He dropped his shorts and threw the dog, escaping on a bulldozer from a nearby building site.

He was arrested later at home by police.

"What motivated him to throw a puppy at the Hell's Angels is currently unclear," a police spokesman said.

The puppy is now being cared for in an animal shelter. " (source)

We will never know why. And that's a shame. Because I really want to know.

Immigration C/O a Comedian

Pretty sad that one of the most realistic (<-not best, just realistic) illegal immigration fixes I've heard recently came from a comedian.

Last night on O'Reilly, Dennis Miller offered up a plan to allow everyone here to stay and then seal the border to Mexico for the next six years.

Yes, it certainly is rewarding illegal behavior, but are we ever really going to find and deport these people? And maybe the sealed border will finally prompt Mexicans to band together against coyotes and other elements keeping them from coming here legally...

As I have said in the past, I am willing/prepared to make some compromises to get this threat to our national security fixed.

Prince Charles & Islam

How did I miss this one?! And here I thought the Prince was a member of the Church of Al Gore...

"Prince Charles drew ridicule from some British pundits this week when he said that environmentalists should "follow the Islamic way to save the world."

The Prince of Wales, who is next in line to be the English monarch and head and the Church of England, said Wednesday in a speech at the Oxford Centre for World Studies that people needed an ecological mindset based on "sacred traditions," especially those from the Koran.

In Islam, the prince told his audience, there is "no separation between man and nature." People who care about the environment -- Christians and other non-Muslims included -- need to adopt this point of view, he argued.

A lack of belief in the soul is to blame for the world's environmental problems, he said.

The prince also called for measures to slow global population growth, which he said was unsustainable..." (source)

I wonder if the Islamic decree to destroy all the pre-Islamic ancient relics in Afghanistan was not about religious insecurity at all...but an attempt to reduce Buddhas' footprint...

Pelosi's New Digs

Guest Post by Mo

With national debt at an all time high and huge deficit spending with no end in sight, how can any increases in government spending be seen as fiscally responsible? Well, we’ve got several excuses to look at.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has moved her offices into a newer, larger space, quadrupling her rent. [source] They claim that though her constituency has not significantly grown, her San Francisco staff “has increased to a size that requires a larger space for files and storage.” [source]

Now wait a minute, file storage? Isn’t this the digital age? Someone donate a scanner or two and a $100 Terabyte hard drive… Is this the same speaker whose own website advocates for investing in IT such as electronic medical records? Why not hold her own offices to the same standard? Maybe doing so would give her useful insight into the challenges and intricacies of the conversion to such a system… Information that would be useful to a public servant who would oversee legislation mandating such conversion within the medical industry (and perhaps other areas of government).

There, problem solved, move back to the cheaper office.

Oh, but wait, the new building consumes “less than half the power of a standard office tower, saving taxpayer funds on utility costs." Really? Let’s see the math. Does moving to an office that costs almost twice as much as any other representative while saving on utility costs result in a net decrease in taxpayer dollars spent? I know that if I quadruple my own rent and cut my utilities in half, I’m going to come out on the wrong end of the deal… but maybe that’s just me.

This sounds like some “voodoo economics” to quote a favorite movie of mine. Or perhaps it’s “fuzzy math.”

Oh, wait… wait. “It’s more secure.” Whew, now I feel a lot better, spend away.

Combat Boots & Useless Information

New blog contributor (see good things do come of whining that you're going to quit blogging!), MO, learned of my penchant for useless information the hard way...

Just minding his business in Iraq...fighting a war against terror and all...and along comes an email from me:

"Did you know that modern day Mosul and ancient Nineveh are one in the same...Nineveh! As in Nineveh of Jonah and the Whale fame!? Right there in Iraq!"

Apparently, his single word reply "Interesting" was a subtle clue that I found the information much more compelling than he did...my not being in threat of running over an IED and all...

So, in celebration of divulging absolutely useless facts, I set out to discover the origin of the phrase "your momma wears combat boots." I had been wondering if it was a remark disparaging the first women of the military... There are pages and pages of speculation -from some saying it was aimed at working mothers in general to others saying it meant your mom was a lesbian or just butch.

But, the most feasible explanation I found, was this saying was used (obviously) as an insult to imply your mother was a prostitute that either needed boots to follow the infantry soldiers around, or had boots that she had been given in exchange for sex with a soldier/marine/etc.

I guess the reason my kids have never heard it is metalhead/punk/goth genres rendered this 'insult' powerless when combat boots became all the rage...

Osama's Would-Be Assassin a Tea Partier?

I sure hope so. I kinda love that guy.

Gary Brooks Faulkner.

"...The American man who was caught in Pakistan armed with a pistol, a 40-inch sword and night-vision goggles wanted to cut off Osama bin Laden's head as revenge for a personal loss he suffered on Sept. 11, 2001.

Gary Brooks Faulkner, a 52-year-old Californian construction worker, told cops there that he "wanted to decapitate Osama bin Laden," according to London's Daily Mail.

It's unclear what loss he suffered during the terrorist attacks.

An intelligence official in Chitral, who asked not to be identified, said Faulkner shouted: "Don't come closer to me or I'll open fire!" when approached.

Faulkner is also battling kidney disease, his family said. "He is dying of kidney disease," Kelli Faulkner, a relative, told The Post. (source)

First, let's get the ABSOLUTE idiots out of the way first...Like this person that started a "Gary Brooks Faulkner is an idiot" Facebook page. Now, the reasons for the idiocy weren't 'what did he think would happen to a white man in Pakistan' or 'if the entire US military can't find him how could he?" ...no, this is his reason:

"Gary Brooks Faulkner is an idiot. If some immigrant came to America with a sword threatening to kill the president, he would be executed."

Does this person think that OSAMA got elected somewhere? See, the names ARE close!

Then there's your run-of-the-mill, predicable idiots that are blogging away about Brooks being a Tea Party person and reporting that he was carrying "Christian Literature."

Like the AP would know Christian Literature if it fell from the sky...

But talk about the government of the people...

Obama's 50 Lies

Came across this while I was trying to find a compete list of all the places our dear leader has been employed...which I can't find. (Unless of course the community organizing job AFTER COLLEGE was the first time he worked. No Friendly's or TGI Fridays? No Sears or 7-11? He's never worked a job in the service industry?)

Anyway, someone took the time to compile 50 lies they feel Obama has hoisted upon the public...so who are we not to give them a read?

Thomas Kinkade's DUI

GUEST POST BY MO

I apologize ahead of time, but I can’t resist. I have a few friends and relatives who love this guy, and have his paintings up in their houses. I personally am not a fan of his work.

Thomas Kinkade ‘Painter of Light’ was arrested for ‘suspicion of DUI’ last night.

I’ve seen a couple headlines that make ‘light’ of the situation (pun intended):

'Painter of Light' Kinkade in a dark spot with DUI arrest, bankruptcy case

'Painter of Light' Paints His Way Into a DUI

Personally, I think that he could roll this into a positive event. He just filed bankruptcy, so why not seek some extra cash through endorsements?

My suggestion? ‘The Painter of Light is a Drinker of Bud Light’ (Of course accompanied by a safety message from Kinkade himself speaking out against drunk driving).

Fair Tax: Change that Believes in You

Guest Post by Mo

From an Article “The Grown Up” I recently read in The American Spectator:

"I've been thinking lately about this slogan that won the last presidential election, 'Change You Can Believe In,'" Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels mused to a group of Washington reporters on Tuesday. "Obviously, it was effective, because they won. But I've been thinking, what the hell does that mean? What was artful about it was that it can mean anything. If I believe in it, it must be what the guy's talking about. So, points for cleverness."

Yet Daniels continued, "If we (Republicans) had a catch phrase of our own, it would be more like, 'Change That Believes In You.' You're a person of dignity. You're a person who was born to be free, and ... if we simply arrange society in a fair way, you're fully capable of deciding how to spend as many of your dollars as we can leave with you, where your kid should go to school, what health care to buy or not buy." [source]

I like a lot of what Governor Daniels has to say, and his great proposed catch phrase for the Republican party this time around. I may be splitting hairs here, so a follow on conversation to clarify his position would be ideally warranted (however unlikely at this juncture from where I sit, pecking away at my laptop in Iraq, counting down the last few hours before I depart on some much needed R&R)...

Anyway, my point is that I disagree with him that government should allow us to “spend as many of your dollars as we can leave with you." I agree with his overall message, that government needs to be re-arranged in a fair way, one that puts more emphasis on individual freedoms and liberty (at least, that’s what I thought he was saying). He was saying that the government should trust the American tax payer with more of their own money, but he pulls up short in my opinion.

(If you are reading this aloud in front of friends who are liberals, politicians, or lobbyists, before you read this next sentence, please ensure they are seated or at least aren’t standing near any sharp objects, in case they faint).

Shouldn't it ought to be that the Government trusts us to spend all of our money the way we see fit? How does the government deciding how much of my earnings I get to keep encourage hard work and industry? That's why I support the FairTax, the abolishment of our current tax system and establishment of a Federal Sales Tax in its place. Let me keep everything I make, and when I decide to spend it, tax those expenditures. I decide when and how much I get taxed... That is truly ‘Change That Believes in You.’ If only our leaders were brave enough to believe.

Obama Pulls the Reagan Card?

"President Obama is demanding B.P. set-up a multi-billion-dollar compensation fund for Gulf Coast residents and businesses damaged by the spill.

"Obviously they have got to make payroll, they've got employees and it trickles down," President Obama said..." (source)

You never know what this guy really believes...

He then went on to compare the oil spill to 9/11 (uh, not really) and then proceeded to golf for the next four hours. Say it with me please, "imagine this were Bush." Sigh.

Real or Just Stirring the Racial Pot?

During the short life span the MSM gave Ellie Light, we learned that there are certain steps dead tree editors are supposed to take regarding the "Letters to the Editor" section... I'm hoping the Philadelphia Daily News just shirked their responsibilities. This seems like a fake to me (or maybe that's just wishful thinking)...

From the June 14, 2010 Opinion section of the Philadelphia Daily News:

Flyers: Like white on ice

I'M HAPPY THAT this Flyer pandemonium is finally over.

As an African-American male, I could never identify with the culture of ice hockey. For one, I don't even know if the team or league has an African-American.

So why should I feel upset that they lost? Even if there was any possibility of a Jackie Robinson in the NHL, I sure don't know of one.

The NHL is unwittingly practicing athletic apartheid as result of their white ice. I look forward to the Eagles, Sixers and Redskins season, which will give me something to culturally identify with. Go, Donovan!

"I Am the Flag"

"Celebrating Flag Day takes on additional importance this year as we are at war. The hearts of all Americans are full when we read of the tragic deaths of our brave American men and women in the Armed Forces, who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defending freedom and democracy in Iraq and Afghanistan. Flying our flag every day is one simple sign of respect to show our support for our brave defenders of freedom.

Another important way to celebrate is to participate in the annual "Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance." Sponsored by the National Flag Day Foundation, all Americans are encouraged to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at 4 p.m. Pacific Time on Flag Day."
(source)

"As a symbol of our patriotism, the American flag continues to invoke pride and resolve among our people, especially when we see it next to a headstone, on the masts of our military ships, worn by the generations of Americans who have proudly served our country, or emerging from the wreckage caused by a natural or manmade disaster. Flying over public buildings, monuments, schools, and homes, our flag is testament to the ideals of American democracy.

Through the years, millions of immigrants have come to our shores seeking to share in the promise of freedom represented by our flag. From war-torn Europe, to the mountains of Afghanistan, to the deserts of Iraq, the flag and those who carry it are universally recognized as harbingers of liberation, justice, and peace. Regardless of circumstance, our flag endures as a sign of hope.

On Flag Day, we look to the red, white, and blue as a symbol of our commitment to advancing the universal hope of liberty and justice for all. Old Glory abounds in the landscape of our daily lives, reminding us of the freedom we share. The 50 stars and 13 stripes are not just a random pattern, they symbolize the blessings of liberty we enjoy as Americans..." Presidential Proclamation, June 6, 2003 (source)

Patriot, nationalist, jingoist...label it whatever you will, but I love our flag...THE flag...and it always fills me with me pride.

Happy 235th Birthday to the United States Army!

Rush's Nuptials

So Rush's Elton John wedding made People magazine, among many other media outlets, and I noticed most of the stories headlined the fact that this is his fourth marriage (Now I'll have to notice if they put that in the headline with other celebs...I doubt they do).

I hope he's not setting himself up for ridicule...if this marriage fails he's entering Zsa Zsa Gabor/Larry King territory.

...And, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my mother who made it a point yesterday to say that I "look much younger than the girl Rush Limbaugh just married" since apparently I was getting ready to brave the first grade when she was born...

I was thinking last night that this is one area the tables would turn and I could give Rush a few pointers... Congratulations Rush!

Glorifying Bad Behavior?

Would they have made it into a hip song if Bush had been crass about the wildlife dying, a molasses-slow response and millions in lost revenue? Oh, I think not.

Neo-Con? Me?

Conservative/Progressive score: 1
You are a social conservative. You believe in traditional values, and care first and foremost about your country, your family, and your religion. You dislike the agenda of the left because you see them as trying to destroy these things.

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 3

You're a Capitalist Purist. You believe that the market should be completely free, and that the invisible hand of the market will make sure that the people get what they want and will do it in the most efficient way possible. You believe in small government, less taxes, and more privatization.

Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 3

You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism.

Pacifist/Militarist score: 10

You're a Militarist. You believe that since the United States has so much power in the world, it has a responsibility to keep the world safe. You think that if the US does not exert its power in the world, it may eventually lose its power, and that we can not look weak in the face of terrorists, and must take them out where they live.

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of NeoCon Republican.

I thought this quiz was a pretty good one.
