The Charity of Shaquille O'Neal

Most stories printed about professional athletes deal with their very visible foibles...and in the past couple days we have seen that even the "good ones" fall... So, when my girlfriend told me this story about Shaquille O'Neal, I felt it was right to make it known when an athlete IS role-model worthy.

"...The murder of Shaniya Davis has literally touched a nation. Over 2000 people showed up at her funeral to show their love and support to her and her family. Many others have shed tears for her loss at candlelight vigils and in the privacy of their own homes.
A nation has mourned the loss of Shaniya Davis and expressed outrage as the news reports have painted a heartbreaking picture of what this beautiful child suffered through.
According to CNN, Shaquille O'Neal paid for the funeral of 5-year-old Shaniya Davis, whose body was found last week.." (Read the entire story)

In local papers it was written that the story of little Shaniya upset Shaq so deeply that he called her father and asked what he could do --which led to him paying for all the funeral and viewing and costs.

(Shaniya's story here)

Shaq has always been very active with the USMC and Toys for Tots...but this particular story was especially heartwarming to hear about.
