Purpose Driven Barack?

"Gay rights advocates are rallying in opposition to the choice of evangelical megapastor Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama next month.

Shortly after inaugural organizers announced the lineup for the ceremony yesterday, the Human Rights Campaign sent a blistering letter to Obama (D) in which it called the choice of Warren "a genuine blow" to gay Americans, who supported Obama overwhelmingly in his race against Republican nominee John McCain.

The letter noted Warren's vocal support of California's Proposition 8, a ballot measure banning gay marriage in the state that was approved by California voters last month. "By inviting Rick Warren to your inauguration, you have tarnished the view that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans have a place at your table," the letter said.

...[H]e has earned the ire of liberals with his opposition to abortion, same-sex marriage and stem-cell research -- stances that are well in line with his faith as a Southern Baptist preacher." (source)

Truthfully I don't know much about Rick Warren and big tent pastors scar me a bit (especially after the Ted Haggard debacle)...and I've never read his book. BUT, anyone that has the Left's panties in such a bunch...

Over at the DU they are asking members to "barrage the inbox" of the transition team to let them know they hate Warren --and they warn members "not to mention they're a Dem."

And the Kos kids are wondering if there wasn't another choice that wasn't "a spit in the eye of the GBLT community".

I thought keeping Gates on as SoD was the first Obama booboo in the eye's of the Left, but HuffPo claims asking Warren to say a prayer is the "first real rift with Progressives."
