Islam: Bad For Women's Health

"...Conservative Muslim dress codes may be causing vitamin D deficiency in women by limiting their exposure to sunlight, humans' main source for the vitamin, according to new research.

Scientists had previously found high rates of vitamin D deficiency in Arab and East Indian women living in the United Arab Emirates. A follow-up study investigated the effect of vitamin D supplements on 178 UAE women, many of whom covered themselves entirely, faces and hands included, when outside their homes. Only two of the women did not have vitamin D deficiency prior to receiving supplements. The results were published by a team of scientists in the June issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.." (source)

Do you think the threat of osteoporosis, rickets or cancer will change Muslim men from forcing their women to cover from head to toe...?

Maybe the hijab/burqa were a grand design to suppress serotonin levels and keep their women unhappy and subservient...

SCOTUS gets one right

Court strikes down school integration plans
Concluding its current Term with a historic ruling on race in public policy, the Supreme Court divided 5-4 on Thursday in striking down voluntary integration plans in the public schools of Seattle and Louisville. Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., wrote the majority opinion in the combined cases.
...
"The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race," Roberts wrote. On the two school plans, the majority found that the districts have "failed to provide the necessary support for the proposition that there is no other way than individual racial classifications to avoid racial isolation in their school districts."
What a great line, "The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race." I just love it.

Gross Co-Worker Habits

There is at least one in every office. The Gross Co-Worker.

AB and I worked in an office where a woman would eat an apple in the bathroom stall and leave without washing her hands. We also worked with a man who would lick the knife for our sticky buns and would pick the salt off of soft pretzels when someone brought them in for the team.

In the office I currently work at we have a woman who will pick food out of the trash and put it out on the table for people to eat. (Incidentally this woman is also a non-hand washer) I was curious to see what some of your coworkers may do that grossed you out. Please share ;)

Geography Doesn't Equal Segregation

"Racial segregation is characterized by separation of different races in daily life, such as eating in a restaurant, drinking from a water fountain, using a rest room, attending school, going to the movies, or in the rental or purchase of a home." (source)

Sending a child to a school in their district wouldn't even count as "de facto segregation". I have never agreed with the concept of busing kids around to maintain some quota of what the racial makeup of a school 'should be'.

Many people move when their children reach school age and endure higher property/school taxes specifically so their children will attend the schools in that district. The idea that property taxes in my neighborhood could be upwards of $3,600 and my kid will get bused to the school where the parents pay $900 and their kid takes the slot at my school? How is that fair?

Thankfully the majority of the Supreme Court agreed with me:

"A bitterly divided U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday issued what is likely to be a landmark opinion -- ruling that race cannot be a factor in the assignment of children to public schools.

The court struck down public school choice plans in Seattle, Washington, and Louisville, Kentucky, concluding they relied on an unconstitutional use of racial criteria, with the 5-4 vote reflecting the deep legal and social divide over the issue of race and education.

Similar plans already in place or being proposed across the country could be in danger as a result of the ruling, which would sharply limit the power of local governments to achieve diversity using race-based criteria.

A conservative majority led by Chief Justice John Roberts said other means besides race considerations should be used to achieve diversity in schools.

"The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race," Roberts wrote." (source)

Maybe it's just me, but I don't get how going to your neighborhood school amounts to racism.

Subpoena Fights

I think that should be the attitude of Republicans to the latest congressional-White House showdown over subpoenas, executive privilege, etc. These kinds of fights are passionate affairs for insiders and partisans of both sides, but I think are generally off-putting to the public. There's really not much more damage that Democrats can do to Bush with this stuff. What are they going to do? Take him from 29% to 27%? But they can further cement their own role in the ongoing saga Inside the Beltway called, "Everything Everyone Hates About Washington." Republicans can hope after another year-and-a-half of this both parties will have unpopular high-profile symbols, Bush for the Republicans and Congress for the Democrats. That will make a little wider the best opening a Republican presidential candidate is likely going to have in '08, which is running as an outsider who is not vested in the tired old politics of the last 8 years. This strategy becomes even more plausible if the Democrats run a senator who has been a powerful fixture in Washington since January 1993.(source)

Gee, who could he be talking about? Hhhhhhmmmmmm, January 1993???

Gotta love that dress. At least the hat hides her mug.

Now, as for that outsider, who could that be?

Is Shamnesty really dead?

Yes, cloture failed today, by an impressive margin. But what is next?

Take This 'Fairness Doctrine'

I just saw an ad on TNT that's bound to make "Fairness Doctrine" folks cry in their Cheerios. It went something like this:

Fred Thompson's face on the screen. You may be wondering what Fred Thompson would be like as the President, and now you can see how he handles his courtroom. Tomorrow on TNT watch the Fred Thompson Law & Order marathon all day.

You couldn't buy better publicity (unless of course Ann Coulter mentions you in a column), but the best part is no one can utter a word of disapproval. Thompson hasn't declared. Marathon away!

Speaking of Fairness Doctrine

I can't say he is my first choice, but I sure like this:

Sigh, Here she goes again...

Hillary Clinton asked for suggestions about a theme song for her campaign. (video link) Bill's suggestion, "I Want Your Sex", by George Michael, was not selected. Nor was Chelsea's suggestion, the theme song from "Mommy Dearest". As I'm sure you know by now, she picked "You and I" by Celine Dion.

Well, she's back again. Another video, requesting our help.

Way Cool, Dudes and Dudettes!

School kids photographed the Space Station
Astronomers at a Boston-area high school snapped this stunning picture of the space shuttle Atlantis docking with the International Space Station, 190 nautical miles up.

World: "Yeah" Hamas: "No Way, Man."

Tony Blair Accepts Appointment as Middle East Peace Envoy
The United Nations, United States, European Union and Russia announced the appointment Wednesday of Tony Blair as their representative to promote peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

A statement from the so-called Quartet of international mediators said the former British prime minister will seek to mobilize international assistance to the Palestinians and develop plans to promote Palestinian economic development.

Blair will also seek international support to address the needs of Palestinian government institutions, "focusing as a matter of urgency on the rule of law," the statement said.
Meanwhile, Yahia Mussa stated,
Look, we can't work with him. The Former Criminal Minister of the imperialist not so Great Britain has not stated in an unequivocal fashion that the Israeli dogs are the sole cause of evil in Middle East. Short of this type of declaration, such as that offered by the benevolent former President Carter, Allah Bless Him, demonstrates beyond a doubt that Blair will attempt to treat the Israeli dogs in a fair and unbiased fashion. THIS CANNOT STAND!!!
Mussa quoted Blair as saying:
"The problem we have with Hamas is very, very simple. The only solution is a two-state solution -- Israeli state, viable Palestinian state. The problem is how do we negotiate that with Hamas if they say that Israel hasn't the right to exist?"
After this quote, Mussa was noted to scream something like:
I mean, holy excrement of a camel, how can we work with this? He asks, "How do we negotiate with Hamas?" I tell him,
  • Stop economic blockade
  • Give me, I mean, Hamas, I mean, the Palestinian state all the money we can spend
  • Eradicate Israel
Then we can talk, you piece of filth that even a starving Israeli dog wouldn't eat.
President Bush, immediately after announcing his switch to the Democrat Party, issued the following statement:
I think we have to respect Mr. Mussa. It is very promising that he has outlined a framework for further negotiations. I have consulted with President Carter, a respected member of my new party, and he is confident that we can trust Hamas, much as Fatah trusted them. President Carter feels that these demands, er, uh, suggestions are very similar to what he feels is necessary for peace in the Middle East and we will work to implement them.

People Just Don't Get Ann...

To get Ann Coulter's humor you have to be very pop-culture savvy. Most politicos aren't. Almost everything Ann says is a clever play on what someone else has recently said (and the MSM glossed over).

The huge flap over her "gay-bashing" Edwards comments was directly referring to Isaiah Washington's gaffe on the set of Gray's Anatomy.

And her recent comment about Edwards (he is an easy target) was a play on something Bill Maher said about Vice President Cheney.

So, if you aren't up on pop culture. If you're above reading People Magazine and watching Access Hollywood...don’t read Ann 'cause you just won't get it. When you don’t get it you end up calling up TV shows and making yourself look silly...

"...Elizabeth Edwards pleaded Tuesday with Ann Coulter to "stop the personal attacks," a day after the conservative commentator said she wished Edwards' husband, Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, had been killed by terrorists.

"The things she has said over the years, not just about John but about other candidates, lowers the political dialogue at precisely the time we need to raise it," Edwards said by phone on MSNBC's "Hardball" program, where Coulter was a guest.

Elizabeth Edwards said she did not consult her husband before confronting Coulter on the air, adding that she felt the pundit's remarks were "a dialogue on hatefulness and ugliness..." (source)

Hey Elizabeth, Ann just inserted your husband's name for Dick Cheney's. What I have to wonder is if you called Hardball after Bill Maher said he wished the Vice President had been killed by terrorists. Did you ask Maher to stop his show? yeah, I didn't think so... You're just not hip enough to get Ann.

First "Rape", Now "Prostitute"

Of course you all remember the post about the judge that banned the word "rape" in his courtroom... Well, not to be outdone by us Yanks, the Brits have banned the word "prostitute" in favor of "person". Really.

"...In a dramatic softening of the law on prostitution, only 'persistent' street offenders will face any police action.

The term 'common prostitute' will be banished from English law. Instead, sex workers must be referred to as 'persons'.

In the final act of the Blair Government, Ministers also announced that tens of thousands of convicts who re-offend will receive softer punishments or escape jail altogether..." (source)

I wonder if hooker is still okay... Truthfully, I'm not sure why prostitution is illegal anyway. It is a huge industry -let's regulate it (with mandatory HIV, AIDS, HEP C testing) and tax the hell out of it... I wish we spent as much time worrying about pedophiles than if someone gets paid for sex...

Once a Marine...

"...Bill Barnes says he was scratching off a losing $2 lottery ticket inside a gas station when he felt a hand slip into his front-left pants pocket, where he had $300 in cash.

He immediately grabbed the person's wrist with his left hand and started throwing punches with his right, landing six or seven blows before a store manager intervened.

"I guess he thought I was an easy mark," Barnes, 72, told The Grand Rapids Press for a story Tuesday.

He's anything but an easy mark: Barnes served in the Marines, was an accomplished Golden Gloves boxer and retired after 20 years as an iron worker..." (source)

How great would that have been to see? Some 27 year old punk (Jesse Daniel Rae) thinks he's home free with the AARP guy and slam...he gets the crap beat out of him.

The sad thing is, in litigious America where the victims have no rights, this former marine will probably get sued by the thief...

I loved what Barnes said about why he did it:

"I wouldn't want my wife to give me hell for lettin' that guy get my money," he said with a smile.

UN-"Fairness Doctrine"

Just another example of the left's hatred of Free Speech and free enterprise...

The "Fairness Doctrine" is another one of those mind blowing things for me that I won't 'get' no matter how many arguments are presented in favor of it. Are we as Americans now in some little league soccer camp where everyone gets a trophy and competition is no longer allowed?

Study Says Muslims Need To Integrate...

A new study says that Muslims remain isolated in the U.S. and unless they are integrated into the mainstream they may devolve into fundamentalism.

"..."There is an urgent national need for Muslims and non-Muslims to work together to create full and equal opportunities for civic and political participation of Muslim Americans," the report said.

For the first time since World War Two when the U.S. government rounded up and interred Japanese, many are questioning the loyalty "of a largely unfamiliar and largely immigrant American community," said the report written by a task force of 32 individuals from business, government and academia.

Six years after the September 11 attacks focused attention on them, Muslim Americans remain "largely outside the U.S. mainstream," the report said, even though they are an often well-educated and diverse group with the potential to make important contributions to civic life.

"The Muslim American community lacks strong institutions and recognizable public or political voices to gain regular access to government and media circles," the report's executive summary said.

"Some existing Muslim American institutions have avoided foreign policy issues for fear of drawing unfavorable scrutiny," it added..." (source)

The glaringly obvious flaw of this study is that the cultural isolationism seen by Muslims in the US has nothing to do with 9/11. It is the same in every country around the world. Even the liberal Netherlands is now seeking to require Dutch be spoken by all immigrants due to the fact that Muslims there refuse to integrate. Muslims have no desire to be a part of an infidel society. That would be like asking fundamentalist Christians to hang at strip clubs. Not.Going.To.Happen. So, if the conclusion was the youth would be sucked into fanaticism without integration, but the majority reject integration...where does that leave the citizens of the United States?

There are some backslidden moderate Muslims that appear to want to fit in according to the NY Post yesterday:
"WHEN non-Muslims think of Islamic fashion, they usually imagine stark black dresses and plain white head scarves, or even burqas - uniform outfits that afford little room for originality.

But Saubia Arbab, like many of the city’s young Muslims, defies stereotype, making the look her own with a unique blend of old and new..." (source)

Jules has a great post up about how jihad has finally created equality for Muslim women...

Marching for the Terrorists

I realize that I have posted about this tons of times in the past, but I STILL don't get it. I don't get the people that believe the terrorists housed at Club Gitmo should have all the protections of a US citizen (they're NOT). but I really don't get the people that would take off work and take time from their lives and families (assuming they have any of the aforementioned things) and march for these men that are detained for treachery against America and American troops. The same terrorists who have in the past been released from Gitmo only to be captured AGAIN trying to kill American troops. Please tell me what logic these people are using...

"In Washington, several hundred people rallied in favor of restoring legal rights to prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay. But San Diego Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter says that's a bad idea.

Hunter: According to our Armed Services staff, 100 percent of them have had the review. So whoever gave you the information that very few of them have been brought up is wrong. They all have.

Critics say the tribunal process prevents the accused from consulting a lawyer and allows evidence that may have been obtained using torture. Legislation restoring the right of habeas corpus has been introduced in both houses of Congress, but faces an almost certain veto from President Bush." (source)

I barely have time in the day to check my email. I have tried to go to the Milblog Conference, the Gathering of Eagles and the last two Freedom Concerts but I have obligations and a family. How do these people have so much "me time" that they can go make signs and rally for people that would behead them without a second thought?

The CIA Failed at Poisoning Castro

I'd poison Castro for $150,000. Hey, I took four years of Spanish. A little accent, a lot of cleavage, a few poison pills, a plane ticket and I'm good to go...

Seriously though (well, that was serious too in case anyone from the CIA is reading), I don't get what the big deal over these new declassified CIA documents is. So we tried to have Castro killed?! Wouldn't we be remiss if we hadn't? I'm sure we tried to kill Saddam too and a lot of lives would have been saved if we had succeeded. Hitler, Stalin, Idi Amin and Pol Pot too while we're at it.

I realize that state-sanctioned assassination is serious business, but I am someone that believes the end does justify the means...

George Michael Now Looks Like a Saint...

"A woman told police that she was walking into the bathroom with her children, and noticed Hernandez and Jimenez naked and apparently performing oral sex. She said another woman was photographing the acts.

The pregnant mother said she tried to leave the area with her children but the women would not let her leave. She said she was threatened not to call the police.

Hernandez and Jimenez face lewd and lascivious exhibition charges as well as battery on a pregnant person, false imprisonment of an adult and child under 13 years old.

While the women were being transported to the Seminole County Jail, an officer said that Hernandez apparently bit Jimenez inside the patrol car, according to the police report." (source)

I don't know what I can really add to this story other than I hope these two are treated for whatever mental disorders plague them... You don't often read stories about sadistic lesbians tormenting breeders and their offspring. I wonder how old the kids were and how their mother explained this little disaster to them...?

Those Evil, American Soldiers At It Again...

"The nine-year old boy would most certainly lose his leg. Given the prohibitive cost of medical care and his family’s lack of resources, amputation and a life of pain and dependence seemed inevitable. The Iraqi boy’s father was resigned to that conclusion.
Then two soldiers got involved and hope arrived along with them.

Sgt. Donald R. Campbell [on his 3rd combat deployment] and Capt. Geoffrey Dutton, both Georgia natives, brought coalition and Iraqi resources together to give an Iraqi boy hope after a chance encounter during a routine patrol in Kirkuk, Iraq..." (Read this great story)

Now, before the troop-haters say that the boy's leg was probably injured by coalition bombs or fire in the first place...it wasn't. He was shot twice at a wedding replete with traditional (read: insane) Iraqi celebratory gunfire.

"As for the boy’s father, he’s no longer resigned to the inevitable. As importantly, his distrust of coalition forces has been replaced by gratitude.

“Sgt. Campbell and the others were always by me and always helped me,” said the boy’s father through an interpreter. “They came to my house to treat and clean the leg and help when no one else would,” he said. “This is all to get my son help. For that, I’m grateful.”

As my little one would say...Sweet.

Gore's Moon Arising?

"The effort to convince Al Gore to run for president is reaching the airwaves in Iowa.

The Draft Gore Committee launched its first radio ad on Monday on WHO-AM radio in Des Moines. The 30-second ad, dubbed "You Who," features a chorus of voices urging the former vice president and Oscar winner for his global warming documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," to seek the Democratic presidential nomination.

The political action committee, which claims to have gathered 94,000 signatures on an online petition, is not officially affiliated with Gore. The 2000 Democratic nominee has repeatedly said he has no plans to seek the nomination, though he has not ruled out a bid.

The radio ad included such pleas as "Mr. Gore we need you for president," and "We deserve a president we can respect."

"Al Gore: Right on Iraq, right on global warming, right for the 21st Century," the ad says." (source)

As I have said before, I do believe Gore will enter the race (the loons already thing he's the 'rightful owner' of the oval office) and I hope it comes down to Thompson VS. Gore. No shortage of blogging fodder there...

Charlie Daniels Honored by the Pentagon

"...The Pentagon honored music legend Charlie Daniels here today with the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service, the Defense Department’s top civilian award.

Perhaps best known for his chart-topping platinum single, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” Daniels has played concerts for servicemembers at military installations around the world. The musician, who has been entertaining troops with his genre-blending style of country, blues and jazz for more than 35 years, says his life-long patriotism was born during World War II.

“I remember the day that Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, and I have taken patriotism into my heart, I have taken the military into my heart, and it has been there ever since,” Daniels said. “The more I go among the military, the more I am convinced that you folks are the best America’s got.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be able to come to wherever the military is, in whatever part of the world they happen to be in, to entertain them,” he said." (source)

I am normally NOT a fan of country music, but I love me some Charlie Daniels. If he's at the 9/11 Six Flags Freedom Concert this year I am so there... I would love to see/hear him play live.

Megadeth Rulz...

Okay, I'm going to be a bit of a hypocrite here... I really don't want to know the politics of any famous actor/singer. I'd rather not have political rants in every song, movie and TV show I put on. This IS NOT 1971. This IS NOT Vietnam. When I want politics I'll seek it out...

BUT, that being said, given the fact that so many celebrities and musicians have decided to throw their (mostly) uneducated opinions into the mix it makes it a welcome change when someone sings to the silent majority...

Enter the newest Megadeth CD... United Abominations

Some of the lyrics:

All that they envisioned
of what things would come to be
Turned into a pink mist
When they blew to smithereens
We are just a war away from Amerikhastan
With god vs. god, the undoing of man..."
-Amerikastan

Disengage their minds, sabotage their health
Promote sex, and war, and violence in the kindergartens
Blame the parents and teachers; it’s their fault, “Annuit Coeptis”
Attack the church dynamic, attack the family
Keep the public undisciplined till nothing left is sacred and
The “have-nots” get hooked and have to go to the “haves” just to cop a fix..."
-Washington is Next

"NATO invaded Yugoslavia to end ethnic cleansing, there was no UN
The US invaded Afghanistan after 9/11, there was no UN
Saddam Hussein violated 17 UN resolutions; The UN was asked to join the war in Iraq. The US invaded, Ha! there was no UN
Libya bombed a discotheque in Berlin killing Americans, there was no UN
Iran funds any terrorist organization it can, and attacked the US in the seventies, there was no stinking UN
Facing War without end, looking into the future, there was no more UN.."
-United Abominations

So yeah, it's a slow news day and any fans of "Peace Sells" will probably dig this CD...

I guess this proves that no moderating of comments is needed... I still get a 'G' rating even with all the cussing and sexual innuendoing that goes on here! :)

I don't curse (often anyway) because I don't want the military sites or the public school servers to block the site. I always assumed that what went on in the comments and the Grotto wouldn't effect that --and it seems I was right. Maybe because Haloscan is hacked in and not part of the Blog...or maybe comments never effect "Nanny Blocker" ratings...?

Communism Remains Campus Chic ...

I LOVED this article:

"One sure sign that academia is failing in its mission can be seen in the lack of understanding by the young of the toll taken by communist regimes around the world throughout the 20th Century, that continues to accumulate to this very day. “Ask college students, and I have, how many Stalin killed and you get the answer, ‘thousands,’” University of Pennsylvania history professor Alan Charles Kors said on June 12th at the Heritage Foundation. “That’s like saying Hitler killed hundreds of Jews.”

“Communism claimed 100 million victims,” Emil Constantinescu pointed out in the same forum that Dr. Kors addressed. “In my country, Romania, we had one million dead and one million political prisoners out of a total population of 16 million.” Constantinescu was the former President of Romania..." (Read the whole article)

We have all kvetched about the Che shirts, the Castro support...there's a story about ditzy Cameron Diaz wearing a Maoist logo and offending the people of Peru...and you have to wonder: what the heck are kids learning in history and political science classes these days. Are there major revisionist history lessons in the curriculum? In high school we had huge discussions about Communism/Socialism being the ideal society, but that they could only exist in a Utopia. We discussed the reality of men and corruption and absolute power. We talked about all the failed attempts at this style of government. Then again, I went to a Christian high school… I guess there's something to be said for not excluding God from education...

"Moderate Muslims" Silenced

A common thought among the Bloggers on the right is if there were more "moderate Muslims" crying out against terrorism and the "hijacking of their religion" (without the usual qualifiers), non-Muslims would be more tolerant and have a bit more tolerance. Some have pointed to the few cases of Muslims that speak out and are threatened and ostracized as justification for the silence.

Mohammad Sarwar, a labour MP in Britain, is not even an activist. he was just doing his job and still he recently retired due to threats against himself and his family:

"A Labour MP is stepping down after receiving death threats over his role in bringing three racist killers to justice.

Mohammad Sarwar, who became Britain's first Muslim MP in 1997, said he feared the lives of his family were also in jeopardy.

He was instrumental in arranging the extradition of Imran Shahid, Zeeshan Shahid and Mohammed Faisal Mushtaq after they fled to Pakistan.

The three were jailed for life last year for the abduction and racially aggravated murder of teenager Kriss Donald, who was kidnapped, tortured and killed in Glasgow in 2004.

Mr Sarwar, 54, told the Daily Record: "Life is not the same, to be honest with you, since I brought them back. I was subjected to threats.

"I was told they wanted to punish my family and make a horrible example of my son - they would do to him what they did to Kriss Donald. I received threats to my life, to murder my sons, to murder my grandchildren." (source)

This man believed that murderers should be brought to justice...and because of that belief he and his family deserve death?

I don't consider this an excuse for the Muslim community to keep quiet. It's too easy to target the individuals helping in the GWOT because there are so few of them. If there were hoards of Allah's followers condemning jihad, terror, homicide belts and killing infidels --there would be no way to keep track and issue fatwas and threats to all of them....

George Will Links "Thought Police" to McCain-Feingold

"Marriage is the foundation of the natural family and sustains family values. That sentence is inflammatory, perhaps even a hate crime.

At least it is in Oakland, Calif. That city's government says those words, italicized here, constitute something akin to hate speech and can be proscribed from the government's open e-mail system and employee bulletin board.

When the McCain-Feingold law empowered government to regulate the quantity, content and timing of political campaign speech about government, it was predictable that the right of free speech would increasingly be sacrificed to various social objectives that free speech supposedly impedes. And it was predictable that speech suppression would become an instrument of cultural combat, used to settle ideological scores and advance political agendas by silencing adversaries..." (Read the entire piece)

This at a time when we have allegations that Hillary Clinton and Barabra Boxer talking about a "legislative fix" to "curb" rightwing talk radio.

I don't care if you're the lefty-ist lefty of the far left crew --these stories should scare the crap out of you too. When we, who constantly brag about all of our freedoms, are being told how to think, what to say, what to feed our kids, what we can and can't watch and listen to...i think it's time to reevaluate what is most important to us. The "freedom" we talk about or the possibility of hurting someone's oversensitive feelings...

Mini-Vacay Pics...

I have been to AC (Atlantic City) tons of times (my friend's hubby's band used to play there a lot when we were younger), but I never saw that they have a Korean Veterans Memorial until this time...

I am very spoiled by North Carolina beaches. They are the shell beaches and opposed to just sand that always looks so dirty. Though AC does have indoor beaches for those of us who skeeve Jersey's actual nature...

The boys kept finding these strange creatures that i thought were baby horse shoe crabs, but it seems they're eastern sea crabs (aka mole crabs). When you blow up the picture all the tentacles are very 'Area 51' looking...

And what vacation is complete without seeing "Leminem" in real life...like it wasn't bad enough I had to listen to his inspiration the entire ride down.

There's a Converse outlet there (which I've never seen before and I'm the Outlet Queen) with some great Chucks...

Jersey can look pretty. The sun even shines on a dog's... What is that saying'? ;)

So it was fun, we spent way more money than we should have (damn those little surf stores), but were glad to back to our own beds, our own coffee maker and away from the horseflies...

The White Stripes Get Political

Excerpt from their new single "Icky Thump":

"...Well, Americans:
What, nothin' better to do?
Why don't you kick yourself out?
You're an immigrant too.

Who's usin' who?
What should we do?
Well you can't be a pimp
And a prostitute too

Icky thump, handcuffed to a bunk
Robbed blind
Looked around
And there was nobody else

Left alone
I hit myself with a stone
Went home
And learned how to clean up after myself."

"Why don't you kick yourself out? You're an immigrant too." <-- How annoying is that. Why do people keep trying to make the debate about immigration? Being technical, I am not an immigrant. And my ancestors were LEGAL immigrants. My sister-in-law to be will be a much welcomed LEGAL immigrant. It's the ILLEGAL part that is the problem, not the immigrant part and it seems like a concerted effort to gloss right over that...

And I don't know about you, but it's kinda hard for me to accept political criticism from a guy that seems to have molded his entire persona around the fictional character Edward Scissorhands...

See, We're Only 25% Dysfunctional...

Your Family Is 25% Dysfunctional

Your family isn't perfect, but everyone's pretty good at working things out.
There's probably been a bit of family drama in your past... and who's to say it's over?
As long as your family communicates openly and respects one another everything should be fine.
Everyone in your family does love one another. They just may not be so good at showing it.

The other day some loon in the Father's Day comments decided to call The Man "emotionally abusive" and said I should find a women's shelter...LOL
She based her entire "diagnosis" on the fact that he "refers to our children as f*ckers". What this genius didn't realize was when he says "the kids" on his site he is NOT referring to our offspring, but to the group of (hilarious) 18, 19 and 20 year olds that comment on his site. When he is talking about OUR kids he says "the boys" or "my boys"...

Deadbeat Dad Tries to Benefit from 9/11

Kenneth M. Caldwell was killed in the WTC on September 11, 2001. Kenny had been raised by his mom. His father had left when he was just a toddler and played no role in his life. Not only was Leon Caldwell Sr. physically and emotionally absent in his son's life, he was also monetarily deficient and owes over $12K in unpaid child support.

"...Because Caldwell, 30, died without a will, [his mother] Elsie Goss-Caldwell, 59, a West Philadelphia tax preparer, was named administrator of his estate, which received an award of $2.9 million from the 9/11 Victim's Recovery Fund.

About three years ago, Leon Caldwell, 59, who had left his wife and two sons about 1973, when Kenneth was 2, moved to claim half the money in his son's estate because he is the biological father.

Goss-Caldwell then sued to have her ex-husband legally disqualified from sharing in the estate, contending that he abandoned the family and played no role in his son's emotional or financial support.

Richard M. Chisholm, Caldwell's lawyer, has argued that Caldwell supported his family until 1975, when he moved to Paterson for a job and his wife began putting up impediments to visitation.

Caldwell says he lost contact because he could not afford to sue for visitation or shared custody." (source)

On my ride to Atlantic City I was listening to one of the morning DJ duos discuss this case with the appropriate disdain for this low-life, but was absolutely shocked and appalled at the number of MEN that called to defend him and take his side.

This Philadelphia born 9/11 victim was 30 years old, so even if the ex-wife was keeping her kids from their father when they were little --what is his excuse for all the years after they turned 18?

AND, child support IS NOT optional. You don’t pay it when you want or when you and the ex are getting along. It is for the SUPPORT of the children you brought into this world. Not seeing your children is putrid enough, but not making sure they have all the things they need is beyond despicable.

The nerve of this dude missing every life milestone and then finally showing up to sign a death certificate so he can get money. If the names would never have been published this guy wouldn't have even known his son was dead. And the nerve of the guys that called to defend him...put your hatred for your ex-wives aside and think about the travesty of this...

9 to 1: Journalists Contributed to Democratic Campaigns...

HERE is the list. Pretty interesting too as many of these news outlets prohibit funding political campaigns so their bias can't be documented like this...

"Whether you sample your news feed from ABC or CBS (or, yes, even NBC and MSNBC), whether you prefer Fox News Channel or National Public Radio, The Wall Street Journal or The New Yorker, some of the journalists feeding you are also feeding cash to politicians, parties or political action committees.

There's a longstanding tradition that journalists don't cheer in the press box. They have opinions, like anyone else, but they are expected to keep those opinions out of their work. Because appearing to be fair is part of being fair, most mainstream news organizations discourage marching for causes, displaying political bumper stickers or giving cash to candidates." (Read the entire story)

Here's the thing, I could care less about the bias. I know it's there. All conservatives know it's there. I do hate that many of the non-thinking for themselves portion of the population eat this crap up, but really I just want the various news mediums to ADMIT it and I'll be happy and shut up about it. It's the constant feigned shock and denial that pisees me off more than the slanted journalism itself.

Judge Bans the Word "Rape" in His Courtroom

"Last month, Lancaster County District Judge Jeffre Cheuvront denied a motion by prosecutors that would have prohibited Safi’s attorneys from using words like “sex” and “intercourse” when describing the encounter between Safi and Bowen.

The Lancaster County Attorney’s Office had argued the words would imply Bowen consented to have sex.

Cheuvront also has sustained an earlier motion by defense attorneys barring the words “rape” and “sexual assault kit.”

In Bowen’s opinion, Cheuvront’s ruling means she will have to lie on the witness stand.

“The word ‘sex’ implies consent,” she said. “I never once would describe (what happened) as sex. He’s making me commit perjury.”

Clarence Mock, one of Safi’s attorneys, said Cheuvront made the rulings to keep the trial fair.

The word “rape,” is not a legal term, he said. “Sexual assault” is, but whether a defendant committed that crime is a question for a jury to answer based on evidence at trial, Mock said.

“Under the rules of evidence, witnesses can’t reach legal conclusions,” he said." (source)

The Man had a good point, let' put this judge in prison for a week and see what words he uses to describe what happens to him there...

Noisy Kids...Go to Jail?

Wow, good thing the Long Island Kostakis' don't live behind us! When the older one antogonizes the little one (which is 23 hours a day) his cry puts a siren to shame...

Now, all of us here currently with kids were at one time childless. Hence we've been on both sides of the 'annoyed by other people's offspring' dilemma --except we now understand something we didn't before we had kids of our own...they aren't puppets you can control. How many times have we all said, "If that were my kid, I'd (fill in the blank)". Then you have your own and you punish and threaten and rant and rave, but at times they still do what they want. Damn that free will...

A Long Island couple now faces jail time (15 days) and a $200 fine because their girls scream, squeal and laugh while playing in their backyard pool. Some snarky neighbors have a petition accusing the girls (11 and 5) of violating a part of the "village noise code". The frivolous lawsuit instigating (childless) couple is Mark & Angie Kostakis.

Thankfully a Bayville judge threw the case out. The parents are upset it went to court, but say they will try to keep the girls quieter.

I'll make that guy a deal. I'll take the family with the laughing, squealing little girls and he can have my neighbor with the wife in hospice and the neglected barking 24 hours a day Cujo-sounding St. Bernard. I don’t have the heart to complain. Deal?

Bloomberg, Take Specter and Giuliani With You...

It looks like Michael Bloomberg is preparing to enter the already overly crowded 2008 presidential race.

First this:
"Mayor Bloomberg is decrying the state of the 2008 presidential race, faulting the major party candidates for offering shallow, simplistic prescriptions, and scolding the press for failing to demand more from those seeking the White House.

During an appearance at Google's headquarters in Silicon Valley yesterday, Mr. Bloomberg said the televised debates among the presidential candidates have been, in essence, a waste of time.

"They have absolutely nothing to do with the job and the qualifications. And they don't tell you anything about whether or not any of those candidates would be good or bad presidents. What they really say is, did they memorize their notes of ‘What to say if …' and whether their staff was able to anticipate," the mayor said. "If you look at both debates, they pandered, what I would argue, the same ways." (source)

Then we find that he has officially changed his voter registration from Republican to "unaffiliated with any political party". Of course he is denying any plans to announce. (source)

He would be silly to run. We already have Giuliani in the race -what would Bloomberg offer that was any different? And he seems to be forgetting something major --something that is growing each and every day...the Fredheads.

The latest Rasmussen poll has FRED THOMPSON IN THE LEAD.

"There’s change at the top in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson earning support from 28% of Likely Republican Primary Voters. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani attracts support from 27%. While Thompson’s one-point edge is statistically insignificant, it is the first time all year that anybody but Giuliani has been on top in Rasmussen Reports polling. A week ago, Thompson and Giuliani were tied at 24%." (source)

(Yes, I have to say it) ...And he hasn't even officially announced!

Episcopalian Church Goes Further Into Lunacy
And I'm Equally Offending All Organized Religion

One thing I have to say about the fundamentalist Muslims...they don't change the tenets of their faith regardless of who it offends (or kills). Not so with Mormonism which rescinded its stand on polygamy (though it was in the religion’s original plan). Catholics, who removed bible verses, ditched purgatory and accepted birth control. Call me old fashioned, but if your respective bible truly is the Word of God...how can it change with the times? Is it a living breathing document or is it divine instruction? You can't have both. You actually believe or you like the concept and you dabble.

The Episcopalian Church has seemed strange to me since I was little and saw people putting rolled up money into a huge golden cross... But now it’s beyond just seeming strange:

"Shortly after noon on Fridays, the Rev. Ann Holmes Redding ties on a black headscarf, preparing to pray with her Muslim group on First Hill.

On Sunday mornings, Redding puts on the white collar of an Episcopal priest.

She does both, she says, because she's Christian and Muslim.

Redding, who until recently was director of faith formation at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, has been a priest for more than 20 years. Now she's ready to tell people that, for the last 15 months, she's also been a Muslim — drawn to the faith after an introduction to Islamic prayers left her profoundly moved.

Her announcement has provoked surprise and bewilderment in many, raising an obvious question: How can someone be both a Christian and a Muslim?

"There are tenets of the faiths that are very, very different," said Kurt Fredrickson, director of the doctor of ministry program at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif. "The most basic would be: What do you do with Jesus?"

Christianity has historically regarded Jesus as the son of God and God incarnate, both fully human and fully divine. Muslims, though they regard Jesus as a great prophet, do not see him as divine and do not consider him the son of God.

"I don't think it's possible" to be both, Fredrickson said, just like "you can't be a Republican and a Democrat." (source)

Yet the Episcopalian Bishop is "excited" about their new inter-faith priest...I mean, we can just delete all the Biblical verses dealing with the Trinity --the Jehovah's Witnesses did...

Carter Embraces Hamas and Blames Bush

"Carter, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who was addressing a conference of Irish human rights officials, said the Bush administration's refusal to accept the 2006 election victory of Hamas was "criminal."

Carter said Hamas, besides winning a fair and democratic mandate that should have entitled it to lead the Palestinian government, had proven itself to be far more organized in its political and military showdowns with the Fatah movement of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Hamas fighters routed Fatah in their violent takeover of the Gaza Strip last week. The split prompted Abbas to dissolve the power-sharing government with his rivals in Hamas and set up a Fatah-led administration to govern the West Bank.

Carter said the American-Israeli-European consensus to reopen direct aid to the new government in the West Bank, but to deny the same to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, represented an "effort to divide Palestinians into two peoples." (source)

Does carter really expect an American government to support a terror infested group

"Hamas is listed as a terrorist organization by Canada, the European Union, Israel, Japan, and the United States, and is banned in Jordan, Australia, and the United Kingdom both list the militant wing of Hamas, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, as a terrorist organization. According to the US State Department, the group is funded by Iran, Palestinian expatriates, and private benefactors in Saudi Arabia and other Arab states. In a 2002 report, Human Rights Watch stated that Hamas' leaders "should be held accountable for the war crimes and crimes against humanity" that have been committed by its members."
(source)

So all of these countries and the Left's beloved Human Right's Watch are all wrong and 83 year old Carter is the authority...? I know we make fun of Jimmy A lot, but seriously, is Dementia setting in? Sun Downers? Alzheimer’s?

Prayers for the Stiffs

"Chinese cemeteries are selling paper replicas of Viagra pills to be burned for dead relatives as a wish for satisfying sex in the afterlife, state media reported Wednesday.

Customers are snapping up the paper Viagra, as well as images of condoms and heavily made-up bar girls ahead of the annual Tombsweeping Festival on April 5, the Nanjing Morning News reported.

Chinese have traditionally burned fake money in honour of dead relatives during the festival, when families clean their ancestors' tombs and graves.

They believe the wealth will accrue to their ancestors in the afterlife." (source)

The nickname for the dead in the title kinda brings up the obvious here... Isn't death natural Viagra? ;)

Mixing Business With Pleasure

The Man is working down at the Jersey Shore (Yes, when the sand is in New Jersey it's "the shore", but anywhere else and it's a beach...it's a Philly thing) and the owner of the vacation house told him to bring his family along. This actually happens quite often when he's working down there, but we have never taken anyone up on the offers.

This time we are. We need to get away -even if it's just for a night. And it is just for a night. Two days at the beach, a nice dinner and a night on the Atlantic City boardwalk sounds like a much needed diversion until we can figure out when North Carolina can happen this summer...

For the first time I will be internet-less. The hotel has complimentary wireless, but thanks to Dell our laptop monitor took a crap like 5 seconds after the warranty ended. I believe Dr. Tony is also on vacation right now --and somewhere a bit more culturally-enriched than A.C. ;)

So, I guess I'll "see" you all on Friday. Feel free to do stuff I wouldn't do ;)

(If you really miss me (ha), you can always go read the guest post I wrote for The Man -but it's the re-telling of an actual event, so there's language I wouldn't normally use here.)

Protests, Fatwas and Jihads...Oh My!

Are Muslims the pettiest people that have EVER walked God's green earth?! (rhetorical question btw). Once again there are call s for Muslims to protest and to blow themselves up --no, not in protest of terrorism or their religion being hijacked, but because Salman Rushdie was knighted in England.

"Sir Salman Rushdie celebrates his 60th birthday today in familiar circumstances: he is once again the subject of death threats across the Islamic world.

Eighteen years after the Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling on Muslims to kill him, a government minister in Pakistan said yesterday that Rushdie’s recent knighthood justified suicide bombing.

The question of blasphemy in The Satanic Verses, Rushdie’s 1988 tale of a prophet misled by the devil, remains a deeply sensitive issue in much of the Muslim world and the author’s inclusion in the Queen’s Birthday Honours last week has inflamed anti-British sentiment.

Gerald Butt, editor of the authoritative Middle East Economic Survey, told The Times: “It will be interpreted as an action calculated to goad Muslims at a time when the atmosphere is already very tense and Britain’s standing in the region is very low because of its involvement in Iraq and its lack of action in tackling the Palestine issue.”

Hundreds of protesters in Multan, Karachi and Lahore set fire to British flags and chanted “Death to Britain, death to Rushdie” and Islamist leaders called for nationwide protests after Friday prayers.

Ijaz-ul-Haq, the Religious Affairs Minister, told the assembly in Islamabad that the award of the knighthood excused suicide bombing. “If somebody has to attack by strapping bombs to his body to protect the honour of the Prophet then it is justified,” he said." (source)

Sheehan Chatter on the Arab Street

Found this story about the Middle East Press & Cindy Sheehan over at the ever-interesting NewsBusters.org. It talks about how intently the Muslim world watches our political happenings --and the anti-war movement. So much so that they reported on an aspect of the Sheehan Resignation that the American press chose to forgo...Sheehan's exodus from the Democratic party.

"…In fact, one Syrian columnist actually did a significantly better job than any major American journalist accurately tying Sheehan's disgust with Democrats to their failure to live up to their 2006 campaign promises." (source)
