More on the PC Front:

"...Yesterday, they named him PorkChop. Today, his name is Ferrous. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs say they've changed the name of the team's mascot. Team officials say the switch was made when it was brought to their attention that the initial name could potentially be offensive to members of the community. Five-year-old Kylie Shimkus of Easton picked the winning name, PorkChop. WFMZ's Joscelyn Moes reports.

According to the team's website, she will get to keep her prize of free IronPigs gear, tickets, and a chance to throw out the first ceremonial pitch at Coca-Cola Park. More than 200 contestants submitted Ferrous as the name..." (source)

My first thought was that a Muslim community must have complained...pork and all. Then I thought of the area and wondered if there was a big Vegan community there. But it turns out that "PorkChop" is "a not-so-commonly used racist term for people of Puerto Rican and Portuguese decent." (source)

I can honestly say I've never heard that. It makes me wonder what the origin is...and if supermarkets there will change what the cut of meat is called...
