From the Blogroll: Things You Shouldn't Miss

  • Newsbusters breaks down the whole Rush Limbaugh "phony soldiers" controversy. He DIDN'T call "soldiers that oppose the Iraq war" phony-- He calls all the fake soldiers that anti-war groups have produced phony! The left HAS produced "phony soldiers" and soldiers that have lied about their deployment and MOS. We have listed the stories and discussed them here...of course it was the infamous Media Matters that started the firestorm. Here's a YouTube link of Rush's response.

And it seems I missed him on Family Guy...

  • Neptunus Lex has a post up about Elizabeth Eckford...about grace and forgiveness and all the things that are absent in the Jena 6 case.

  • Lilo over at Lost in Lima has a really great piece on Sex Ed in Schools. I have two more years before I need to worry about this (I just found out last night they do it in 5th grade now!)

  • Of course anyone that knows me, knows I despise baseball. Don't take me out to the ballgame... Take me to the football, basketball or hockey game, but even if you have free tickets right behind the dugout I will not sit through 9 innings of boringness in the heat drinking near-beer for anyone. All that being said, the Phillies are finally doing good (or so I'm told) and Captain America has a post about it...

  • I'm actually going to see a show tonight (Queens of the Stone Age). It's been so long since I've seen a band, but with Philly's draconian smoking laws--I'm not sure how long we'll last. The Man was going to go by himself, but Liz generously offered to watch the spawn so we could both go. The dilemma is what to wear...the band is classified 'stoner rock' and I'm fresh out of hemp clothing and pot leaf tees... :)

Seattle Police Claim "No Jurisdiction" in PS

I just have to deal with old-hag playground aids and draconian snack guidelines, but this...

"...King County prosecutors on Wednesday charged two Seattle teenagers in a sexual assault on a developmentally disabled female classmate in a Rainier Beach High School restroom in June -- an incident that school officials never reported to police.

A Seattle P-I review of police and Seattle Public Schools records shows that case isn't the only likely crime that wasn't reported to police. While a majority of incidents on school campuses were recorded into the district's safety and security logs and reported to police if necessary, some incidents weren't -- including cases of assaults and strong-arm robberies.

In a few cases, parents or victims say school officials urged them not to report the crimes to police at all.

Pegi McEvoy, who recently took over as interim manger of Seattle schools' safety and security department, acknowledged that the district had a "fragmented" system for documenting and tracking alleged crimes on campuses. This fall, though, district security specialists began filing their reports electronically -- one of a handful of changes intended to streamline and strengthen the reporting process, she said." (source)

Rapes, assaults and weapons and victims are being persuaded not to report these incidents? Why, so the perpetrators aren't "labeled" and don't feel bad about themselves?

    Election Tampering...By The Left?!

"...FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III ordered an internal investigation into whether bureau agents interfered with midterm congressional elections by disclosing a corruption probe that undermined the re-election bid of Republican Rep. Curt Weldon weeks before the Nov. 7 vote.

The publicity from the raid contributed to the Pennsylvania Republican's defeat and led to the election of retired Navy Vice Adm. Joe Sestak, a former Clinton administration national security official.

Mr. Grassley said in his questions to the FBI that the timing of the raid "left the FBI open to criticism and speculation about whether there was an attempt to influence an election." He also wrote that after the investigation was disclosed in the press, the FBI was forced to conduct the searches to prevent the destruction of evidence.

"It appears that the FBI would not have executed these search warrants until after the election except for the fact that someone — possibly an employee of the Justice Department or FBI — leaked the fact of the investigation to the media," Mr. Grassley said.

Mr. Weldon declined to comment on the probe, but a person familiar with the former congressman's thinking said he believes the Justice Department and FBI deliberately sought to sabotage his re-election bid by disclosing the probe in the press within days of the election..." (Read the Entire Story)

I am getting so sick of the fact that "election tampering" has somehow become synonymous with Republicans due to sore losers and unsubstantiated allegations...yet there have more stories than I can even recount of ACTUAL election tampering perpetuated by the DNC.

    Navy Blunder: Swastika Barracks

"...The Navy will spend as much as $600,000 to modify a 40-year-old barracks complex that resembles a swastika from the air, a gaffe that went largely unnoticed before satellite images became easily accessible on the Internet.

The Navy said officials noted the buildings' shape after the groundbreaking in 1967 but decided against changing it at the time because it wasn't obvious from the ground. Aerial photos made available on Google Earth in recent years have since revealed the buildings' shape to a wide audience.

The Navy approved the money to change the walkways, landscaping and rooftop solar panels of the four L-shaped barracks, used by members of the Naval Construction Force at the Navy's amphibious base at Coronado, near San Diego.

"We don't want to be associated with something as symbolic and hateful as a swastika," Scott Sutherland, deputy public affairs officer for Navy Region Southwest, told the Los Angeles Times.

Online commentators remarked widely about the buildings' resemblance to the Nazi symbol.

Dave vonKleist, host of "The Power Hour," a Missouri-based radio-talk show, said he wrote to military officials calling for action.

"I'm concerned about symbolism," he said. "This is not the type of message America needs to be sending to the world." (source)

It's a shame we have to spend $600,000 rebuilding a symbol that meant well-being, but I totally understand that requests to do so... I wonder why it was designed that way to begin with? It couldn't have escaped the architects' notice that it was shaped like a swastika...

    Jenna's First TV Interview

Tonight at 10 pm EST on 20/20 with Diane Sawyer:

"When asked whether she agrees with her father about the Iraq War, Bush said, "You know I'm not here to talk about that, but I'm also not a policymaker. It's a really complicated, obviously a very complicated subject. Everybody can agree on that."

"You know there've been people — [actor] Matt Damon among them — who have said, 'Should the Bush daughters be fighting in Iraq?'" Sawyer said.

"Obviously I understand that question and see what, what the point of that question is, for sure," Bush said. "I think there are many ways to serve your country. And I think … what's most appropriate for me to do is to teach or to work in UNICEF and represent our country in Latin America. But you know I don't think it's a practical question. I think if people really thought about it, they know that we would put many people in danger. But I understand the point of it. I hope that I serve by being a teacher."

Bush told Sawyer she doesn't worry about her father's poll numbers, "because nobody knows him as a person. I mean, he's my father. I separate it, you know? He's a different person to me than what they portray him as. He's a totally different person. I think that's normal, I mean, he's my dad."

Bush said she worries about her father, but says, "He's doing a great job and he's hanging in there. … I worry about him probably less than he worries about me, you know." (source)

I thought that was a great answer. It will be interesting to see how the left'o'sphere reports on this Saturday...

They Far Left Found Their Guy: A Real, Live Anti-War OIF Veteran

"...An Iraq war veteran said Tuesday he is returning his military medals in what anti-war groups are calling a rare and powerful protest.

Josh Gaines, 27, plans to mail the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and National Defense Service Medal to former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. He said he will do so during a protest scheduled for Wednesday in Madison.

“I’m going to give those back because I truly feel that I did not defend my nation and I did not help with the Global War on Terrorism,” said Gaines, who lives in Madison. “If anything, this conflict has bred more terrorism in the Middle East.”

Gaines served a yearlong tour in Iraq between 2004 and 2005 with the U.S. Army Reserve. He spent his time guarding two military bases and issuing ammunition to soldiers but never fired a weapon, he said.

The experience convinced him the war was a mistake and that a steady withdrawal of troops was the right course of action, Gaines said.

“To be quite honest, I felt like we wasted taxpayers’ money,” he said. “The mission just didn’t seem correct and right for that time.” (source)

I can't find anything from him that describes what was wrong aside from what I bolded. Was he mad he didn't get to fire a weapon and was only allowed to hand weapons to other soldiers? "The mission just didn’t seem correct and right for that time." For that time? So earlier or later we could topple Saddam, but not when he was there? I'm confused...

Negative Opinion of Islam Rising & Majority Thinks Mormons are Christians

Really?! Geez, I can't fathom why that would be...

"The number of Americans who say Islam has little or nothing in common with their own religion has spiked to 70 percent in the past two years from 59 percent, the poll found.

Another significant shift has taken place: In 2005, 36 percent of the public said Islam is more likely than other faiths to encourage violence among its believers. That number has risen to 45 percent.

Fifty-three percent of Americans viewed Mormonism positively, while 27 percent viewed Mormons unfavorably.

A slim majority — 52 percent — said Mormonism is a Christian religion. Yet among non-Mormon believers, more than six in ten said Mormonism and their own religion are very different." (source)

As far as the Islam numbers...I'm surprised the unfavorables aren't higher. I did find the Mormon bit interesting because throughout the history of Mormonism they NEVER wanted to be called or lumped in with Christians. It's only in the past ten years that the Mormon church has spent millions IN ADVERTISING to create the facade of a mainstream religion. Don't argue with college I took an entire class on Joseph Smith and Mormonism taught by a ex-lifelong Mormon.

"For over a century, Mormons didn’t want to fit into mainstream Protestantism. They insisted on a position that placed them outside the norm, separate in doctrine and dogma, and distinct in religious history as the ONLY TRUE church of Jesus Christ on the planet. It appears that this formula has worked quite as well as Mormons, on paper at least, have outpaced mainstream Protestantism in terms of increasing their membership. Now they want to be like the mainstream Protestants.

To this end, they no longer advertise the Book of Mormon on TV. Instead, viewers are urged to call and get a free copy of the Bible. This switch in advertising tactics happened about the same time that a DNA study out of BYU showed that Native Americans actually did come from peoples of the Northern Asia, probably across the Bering Sea land bridge, as anthropologists have suggested for decades. So much for the “Submarine from Jerusalem” theory! (Quietly, church leaders have been told not to push that story openly anymore)." (source)

    This Is Why...

    ...Coulter will always be relevant:

"Democrats should run Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for president. He's more coherent than Dennis Kucinich, he dresses like their base, he's more macho than John Edwards, and he's willing to show up at a forum where he might get one hostile question -- unlike the current Democratic candidates for president who won't debate on Fox News Channel. He's not married to an impeached president, and the name "Mahmoud Ahmadinejad" is surely no more frightening than "B. Hussein Obama." (Read the entire article)

    Dogs Before Kids...?

"...A couple in Center Township is facing charges after the man and woman fled a mobile home fire, grabbing their pet dogs but leaving a young boy behind, police said.

Crystal Adams, 31, and James Chandler, 33, are accused of reckless endangerment after Chandler's 4-year-old son was left Friday night, WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh reported.

The boy was treated for smoke inhalation after a firefighter ran inside and pulled him out, township Fire Chief Bill Brucker said.

Police said the firefighters learned that the boy was still inside the burning mobile home when Chandler and Adams told firefighters that they had forgotten the child. Police said that was about 20 minutes after the couple had gotten out..." (source)

Before I had kids, my dog was my baby. key word in that sentence being BEFORE. Now, my dog is my dog and my kids are my babies. I always find it odd when that switch doesn't take place...

    My New Business

You may have noticed my brief absence from blogging here. I have been developing my new business. I am going into the offset business.

I won't be doing carbon offsets. I really like creating greenhouse gases and don't really want to cut back. That's why I traded my Honda Civic Hybrid in on a Ford Expedition. (grunt, grunt)

I will be offering offsets in multiple categories and will include a price list in this post. For those of you who would like a franchise, they won't be available. However, there will be an honesty offset for those who steal my idea!

    Offset Type Fee
Adultery $50/occasion (bulk rates also available)
Tobacco use Whatever the pack cost/pack
    Donut eating $2/donut or $20/dozen
    Stealing 10%
    Poor parenting $500/day
    Alcohol use Are you kidding?
Please send all payments to my e-mail via PayPal. What ideas can you come up with? OBTW, I will gladly host Ted Kennedy's wind generators, for a small fee.

    San Fran Strikes Again

I was told that the Texas constitution still provides them with the right to secede --is there anyway that we can make San Fransisco do that?

"...New York said "yes," but we said "no." Why were the U.S. Marines denied permission to film a recruiting commercial on the streets of San Francisco?

San Francisco is, once again, the center of a controversy over how city leaders treat the U.S. military. This time, it involves an elite group of Marines who wanted to film a recruitment commercial in San Francisco on the anniversary of 9/11.

The tension has been building in the two weeks since the city turned away members of the Silent Drill Platoon, and it boiled over Monday afternoon at a meeting of the San Francisco Film Commission.

The U.S. Marine Silent Drill Platoon performed Monday morning in New York's Times Square. They filmed part of a recruitment commercial through the start of the morning rush hour -- something they could not do in San Francisco on the anniversary of 9/11.

"It's insulting, it's demeaning. This woman is going to insult these young heroes by just arbitrarily saying, 'no, you're not going to film any Marines on California Street," said Captain Greg Corrales of the SFPD Traffic Bureau.

Captain Greg Corrales commands the police traffic bureau that works with crews shooting commercials, TV shows and movies in the city. He's also a Marine veteran and his son is serving his third tour of duty in Iraq.

He says Film Commission Executive Director Stefanie Coyote would only allow the Marine's production crew to film on California Street if there were no Marines in the picture. They wound up filming the empty street and will have to superimpose the Marines later..." (source)

I think I've lost count of all the unabashed anti-military instances have taken place in San Fran...

    Racist NYT OpEd

From BOB HERBERT (NYT OpEd columnist): "...Enough is enough. Last week the Republicans showed once again just how anti-black their party really is.

The G.O.P. has spent the last 40 years insulting, disenfranchising and otherwise stomping on the interests of black Americans.

They can’t be bothered debating issues that might be of interest to black Americans. After all, they’re Republicans..."

Doesn't this guy realize he is part of the problem? I have met tons of Black Republicans-what would he say to them? If someone from the GOP would have written this article about the DNC...Jesus, fur would be flying. Unlike the Left's oft feigned outrage, I am pretty pissed off about this piece. I think it's cheap race-bating and that is the last thing this country needs. There are members of a certain religion that wish to kill us regardless of our skin color. Can we focus on that before we regress to the outdated race war?

As Priceless as the "Two Americas"

Edwards complains about the "two Americas" from his mansion and now he placates the masses with talk of "frivolous lawsuits" --of course after he made all his money as a trial lawyer. I'd love to have a look at his past cases...

"...Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, who made his fortune as a trial lawyer, says attorneys should have to show their medical malpractice cases have merit before filing them.
He also said attorneys with a history of frivolous suits should be barred from filing new cases.

Edwards' proposal is similar to "certificates of merit" laws that have been adopted in several states in recent years. Those laws usually require that an independent doctor assert the validity of a malpractice case before it is filed.

Speaking Monday at a health care forum hosted by Families USA and the Kaiser Foundation, Edwards also said that while reducing malpractice lawsuits, as many have advocated, is a good idea, it won't significantly affect health care costs.

"I do want to push back some on what I think is mostly insurance company-driven hysteria because I think the reality is that the cost associated with legal cases is well under 1 percent of our legal system," the former North Carolina senator said.

Before a lawyer files a malpractice lawsuit, he ought to be required to have two experts certify that the case is both meritorious and serious, Edwards said..." (source)

    Are You "Doomed for Divorce"?

Apparently it comes down to these five questions:

    1) Have you attended college? (If yes, risk decreases by 13%)
    Yes: 1pt.

    2) Is your annual income over $50K? (If yes, risk decreases by 30%)
    Yes: 4 pts.

    3) Do you have a religious affiliation? (If yes, risk decreases by 14%)
    Yes: 1 pt.

    4) Are your parents still married? (If yes, risk decreases by 14%)
    Yes: 1 pt.

    5) Where you married after the age of 25? (If yes, risk decreases by 24%)
    Yes: 3 pts.

**If you scored less than 4 pts. you are "doomed for divorce"
**If you scored between 5-7 you might have a chance with hard work
**If you scored between 8-10 you'll probably make it

Of course all this research was done by Cosmopolitan magazine --right along side this month's sex tips from take it as you will.

    Apparently No Gays in Iran...

I guess all the stories of men hung for "lavat" have been "Western propaganda." ("Iran’s shari`a-based penal code defines lavat as penetrative and non-penetrative sexual acts between men. Iranian law punishes all penetrative sexual acts between adult men with the death penalty. Non-penetrative sexual acts between men are punished with lashes until the fourth offense, when they are punished with death. Sexual acts between women, which are defined differently, are punished with lashes until the fourth offense, when they are also punished with death.")

Reverend Fred Phelps and President Ahmadinejad...bringing LGBT activists and Conservatives together. Amazing.

"I find it ironic that Iran's president accepted an invitation to speak at Columbia University, since students who dissent on Iranian campuses are not met with debate, they are met by a gun and imprisonment. A few months ago, eight college students were imprisoned in Iran's notorious Evin Prison for publishing articles and cartoons critical of Iran's government in a student-run newspaper. The Evin facility has been described as Iran's 'most feared prison' and is known to stone women to death. We need to do our best to empower freedom-loving people throughout Iran." -Fred Dalton Thompson

    I Might Wear This...

...because it's just that funny. ;)

Speaking of seems the free speech lovers had a impending GQ article snuffed. And the left bitches about Rove's "power"?

And President Bush is betting Hillary will be the DNC nominee. *shudder* And some are claiming that he is advising her on the DL...

    Will This Go Unpunished?

"A violent beating in Norfolk is caught on tape. The 13 year-old victim and his family believe the attack could have been racially motivated.

The victim in this case is a 13 year-old white boy, Damien O'Rourke. The group who attacked him is made up of all African American teenagers. Damien and his family believe the teens may have picked the fight because Damien is white.

"I was going to play football with my friends. The next thing I know when I got there, there was like, seven black kids who said they were going to beat me up and they started beating me up," says Damien.

Damien and his family say the violent fight was unprovoked.

"They were kicking me and punching me in the face. They weren't aiming for nothing except my face."

Damien says kids at his new school, including one of the kids involved in the fight, treated him badly for a time because he is white. Now his family believes their skin color could have been what led to the first punch being thrown..."(Source & Video found here)

I'm wondering if fear of accusations and protests will cause this incident to be deemed NOT racially motivated and swept under the rug?

This is why "hate crime" legislation is bogus to begin with. Who cares why someone did something wrong --they should be punished for doing it regardless. Is there ever a good or acceptable reason to beat, maim and/or kill someone? NO. The whole concept of punishing someone "further" for their thoughts is ludicrous.

    Claiming "Veteran" for Beer...

One of The Man's friends was just telling us he was at some bar the other night and this guy was saying he was a Marine just back from Iraq...and getting free drinks all night. The Man's friend started to question him -where he was, who he was with, etc. and the guy was getting all flustered and annoyed. After the guy left someone came in that knew him and confirmed the guy had never been out of Pennsylvania, let alone in iraq. I guess this is a new beer scam...

"...A 23-year-old man who police say ran up $4,000 in bar bills after falsely claiming he was an Iraq war veteran faces arraignment on Cape Cod.

Management at Pufferbellies in Hyannis says Christopher Lee Proe was allowed to write personal checks over five nights in August after telling staff he wanted to celebrate his safe return from Iraq and honor the memory of fallen comrades.

The checks turned out to bogus. Proe was tracked down last Friday at a Yarmouth home.

Pufferbellies general manager Mike Travers says Proe took advantage of the club's policy of giving military personnel special treatment.

Barnstable Police Sergeant John Murphy says Proe has outstanding warrants from three states, including for impersonating a police officer in Ohio and failing to register as a sex offender in Indiana..." (source)

See, the USMC made a mistake...this is where (now banned) tattoos could come in handy. How many of you have met a Marine that doesn't have proof inked somewhere on his skin ;)

    Something's Wrong With This Story...

"...Jan Yoder was preparing for her son's funeral when the phone rang. It was another student loan collector wanting to know when her son would pay up.

Her terse response: Jason is dead. And, she said, "You are part of the reason he took his own life.''

Her terse response: Jason is dead. And, she said, "You are part of the reason he took his own life.''

It was those calls and the burden of crushing debt, she says, that led her depressed son to take the drastic action of killing himself late last month. He did so in the Illinois State University chemistry building in Normal -- in the very lab where he did his research to earn his master's degree.

"It made him feel lower than low to tell somebody every week, 'I don't have a job,'" his mother says now. "It drags you down. You feel like nothing...''(source)

Unless this guy had some back alley loans from Fabrizzio & Dinunzio, Inc., he wouldn't have had to make any payments if he was enrolled in even one class. If he was getting calls it means he didn't take 10 minutes to fill out the academic deferment form online. There are so many ways to put off student loans... My 67 year old doctor told me he's still paying his off because he deferred them for economic hardship for so long. From what the press has reported Philadelphia Mayor John Street has yet to repay his student loans.

"...While relatives acknowledge Yoder had fought depression on and off for years, advocates for student borrowers say his case is another example of a student feeling trapped by student debt..."

I don't know, maybe just an easy scapegoat and a mom's way of not dealing with the fact that her son had serious issues...? Debt sucks, but student loan debt is the least of your problems. They are so easy to work with (and I know this because I've been a SAHM for 8 years).

    DDT Bad, Malaria much worse

I know I've blogged about malaria and DDT before, but this is a good read.

Hitler Would Have Been Invited to Columbia University

Not that it should come as any great shock to anyone, but after inviting Holocaust denier and head terrorist of Iran (aka President Ahmadinejad) to speak at Columbia the University says that Adolph Hitler would have also been welcome to speak there. Now, before you think, "hey it's an institution of higher learning and should encourage free speech from all walks of life"...let's remember the treatment The Minute Men received there and the protesting of the ROTC and military recruiters...

Don't make plans to go join the campus protestors though, Columbia is barring non-students from the campus to keep the hostage-taker safe and sound.

    Syrian "Nuclear Material" Seized

"...Israeli commandos seized nuclear material of North Korean origin during a daring raid on a secret military site in Syria before Israel bombed it this month, according to informed sources in Washington and Jerusalem.

The attack was launched with American approval on September 6 after Washington was shown evidence the material was nuclear related, the well-placed sources say.

They confirmed that samples taken from Syria for testing had been identified as North Korean. This raised fears that Syria might have joined North Korea and Iran in seeking to acquire nuclear weapons.

Israeli special forces had been gathering intelligence for several months in Syria, according to Israeli sources. They located the nuclear material at a compound near Dayr az-Zwar in the north.

Evidence that North Korean personnel were at the site is said to have been shared with President George W Bush over the summer. A senior American source said the administration sought proof of nuclear-related activities before giving the attack its blessing." (source)

Ya know, Cindy might just be right after all. Bring the troops home and replace them with missiles before it's too late.

    Kerry Flipped Off Veterans...

Just two days before the now infamous ever-impotent Kerry taser incident, the almost-President flipped off veterans at a Gathering of Eagles in D.C.:

"...About 50 to 60 people with the Gathering of Eagles had gathered outside the NBC Washington D.C. studio early last Sunday morning, on the day after the ANSWER sponsored anti-war rally. The Eagles had heard that Code Pink, who never showed up, was going to be there.

As things turned out, both Senators John McCain and John Kerry were taping a session of Meet the Press at the same location.

Each came in separate cars and upon completion of the session, Senator McCain left first. Pro-troop advocates explained that Senator McCain's "graciousness was beyond words." His car stopped at the end of the driveway. He looked up and when he saw the Vets, he got out of the car and shook the hands of the Vets, the blue star Moms and the patriots.

It was an emotional moment as Vets and Senator McCain looked eye-to-eye, shaking hands and sincerely thanking each other.

A few moments later, Kerry's car came to the edge of the driveway. Some in the pro-troop group turned their backs in protest, but most of them booed.

It is thought because Kerry raised his hand to wave and in mid-stream stopped once he recognized the vests that the Vets were wearing, that he initially did not hear the boos.

Vet, George Samek who had wanted to let Kerry know that he is a traitor for more than 30 years, happened to be holding a bullhorn. He let Kerry know that "he is no brother of mine." His exact quotes are in the GOE forum under "General Chat", page 2, titled, "When is it Appropriate?"

Many would agree that Samek's comment says it all.

As Kerry's vehicle turned left at an accelerated pace, and faced about 15 people on the opposite side of the street, where most of the vets were standing-- Kerry flipped them the bird from inside the safety of his speeding car!

It happened so quickly there were no pictures only eye witnesses.

This is the gesture Senator John Kerry gives to war veterans when he's not in front of the camera.

The finger he gave to wounded war vets, some of whom still suffer pain shows that he is no statesman.

This is the same John Kerry who insisted on being awarded his first Purple Heart in Vietnam even though his injuries amounted to no more than a "fingernail scrape", his commanding officer at the time now says, (, April 14, 2004)." (source)

    The Fashion Gods Have Spoken!

There are consequences for angering the gods of fashion and good taste. They will only stand the blasphemy of "everyone wears them" or "but they're comfortable" for so long before they will come and smite you for your sin of looking really bad and allowing your children to commit the same sin!

Ugly fads do indeed have consequences... Heed the warning:

Example #1: Young boy SWALLOWS HIS GRILL. For the unhipsters- grills are those god-awful gold and diamond mouth guards that go over your teeth (think Flavor Flav). Now, for me, the less disturbing part of the story was that the boy swallowed and almost choked to death on the grill (fashion gods, remember?), but the fact that his mother purchased the mouth adornment at a flea market! Um, ewww.

Example #2: Children's feet are being maimed in escalators from those horrid rubber Birkenstocks called Crocs. There have been 40+ incidents of children having toes, toenails and chunks of skin ripped off due to these footwear dont's. I was appalled when I started seeing boys in them...but then I started seeing ADULTS wearing them. Grown women in giant, yellow, rubber clogs. The day I see a grown man wearing them, I may just break down and cry on the spot. I hate to say I'm glad that there have been accidents, but it may be what it takes to break this heinous trend.

From the Blogroll: Things You Shouldn't Miss

  • TrekMedic has returned from the abyss and has some thoughts on the Jena 6 case. I have A LOT to say about this case and the subsequent multi-city rallies (and Trek, I also liken it to Mumia), but it all falls on deaf ears. So I'll just say this: Why does the African American community keep rallying around GUILTY people. I am more than sure there are INNOCENT Black people that are accused of something and incarcerated somewhere. March and rally for them. I'll join you. Stop doing it for people that don't even claim to be innocent... Hummers & Cigarettes also has a post up about this case

  • David over at The Thunder Run has a memorial post up for Sgt Eddie Jeffers who was killed in Iraq on September 20, 2007. Jeffers wrote and essay back in February called "Hope Rides Alone" and David has re-posted the piece in the Sgt's honor. A MUST read!

  • SWWBO had the unfortunate experience of having a cab driver take her to the COdePink/Answer/peacenik rally when she was trying to get to the Gathering of Eagles. She made the best of a bad situation and snapped some great shots of the lefties... And Skye has the pics from Gathering of Eagles and got to meet Michelle Malkin!

  • Zombie has up pictures from the "9/11 Truth March and the Power to the Peaceful Festival"... You are NOT going to believe who was in attendance: Wonder Woman and Spiderman! There is also a video of the "ballad of 9/11 Truth":

And gee, what a shock, ya know who else was there? Ron Paul supporters.

  • Honest Partisan posted about how one should best express opposition to the war and discusses the funding bill that was just put down on the Senate.

  • Tammi expressed her anger about Ahmadinejad questioning non-citizen's rights to America's free speech.

  • Captain America over at First In! (who just had his one year blogiversary) has a list posted about things men are expected to be able to do. It explains why I turned down a few proposals and waited for The Man --he can do everything on the list. Why would any woman deal with a man that couldn't atleast perform those limited services! LOL :)

  • Now I am off to waste spend even more money on Halloween decorations...

Update: Also, you should check out PA Water Cooler for ways to help the "Gathering of Eagles" combat the hate and anti-military tactics of the far left!

So Much for Private School :)

    You Passed 8th Grade Spanish

    Congratulations, you got 6/8 correct!

I had four years of Spanish and have a good friend that lives in Mallorca...I really should have gotten 10/10 on that! :)

    Vaya el Norte, el joven!

Ortega's dream, as he recounted it Tuesday standing outside a room at a Windsor motel, is now but a memory. He is one of an estimated 180 Mexicans from Florida who’ve rushed across the border and into Windsor to claim refugee status, fleeing a crackdown on illegal aliens in Florida.

Local agencies that work with refugees have been told to brace for 4,000 to 8,000 refugee claimants.

Every single day this month, Mexican nationals who have been living illegally in Florida -- some for a dozen years or more -- are turning up at the Windsor-Detroit border seeking refugee status. The first group arrived at the YMCA on Aug. 28.
Wow!! Four to eight thousand!!! How on earth will they absorb that?? Now I can understand why the Canadians and their superior attitudes instruct us to accept the 12 or so million illegals in the US!

    Cornyn traps Hillary

Yesterday Texas Senator John Cornyn set a trap that snapped down hard on a pair of Presidential hopefuls. Mr. Cornyn cattle prodded a measure through the Senate that would force each of the elected officials to go on record either condemning or supporting’s add that smeared General Petraeus.

25 Senators in total voted not to condemn them, with 22 of those officials being Democrats. This is no surprise seeing as most elected Democrats have the same icky feelings about the military that most people reserve dust mites or tape worms. What was significant was that it was a carefully constructed snare that was designed to force the Democrat Presidential frontrunners to make a clear choice between support of the military and dollars.

Hillary Clinton blundered into the trap with the same enthusiasm that her husband showed when blundering into an intern. She is now on record as someone who will not condemn an ad that smeared a decorated war hero. Considering the fact that she wants to be elected as the Commander and Chief of the military, taking MoveOns side against the top commander in Iraq was a bad tactical decision. This is a vote that the Republicans will beat her senseless with over the next fourteen months. It reinforces how weak liberals are on national defense and highlights their complete disdain for our servicemen and women.

When Barack Hussein Obama heard this vote was coming to the floor, he quickly retreated from the building…or was he being redeployed? Either way, he wanted no part of being on record. At that point he got as far away from the voting as humanly possible so he could avoid being locked down on a position and simply shout rhetoric from a safe distance. This wishy-washy approach is something that can dog him almost as badly as Hillary siding against the military on this issue. It shows that he either doesn’t have the courage to stand up for his convictions, wants to play both sides of the fence, or refuses to make a decision without some focus group data to support his position. In short, the retreat/redeployment from the building doesn’t make him look very Presidential. Not openly supporting will also probably not go down well with the leftists who run that organization.

Forcing the libs to choose a side between their far left base and the military was a brilliant move by Senator John Cornyn. It could almost be considered Rovesque. The measure passed and has been officially condemned by the Senate. Not only does Hillary’s vote put her on the losing side of this issue, but it will be one more albatross around her neck when the Republicans start running ads against her in a few months.

    Memorial 101st Airborne Jeep

Karla Comfort's Memorial H3 has gotten a lot of well deserved attention, but the Comfort's aren't the only family that has created mobile memorials out of their everyday transportation.

I was recently sent pictures of another such vehicle owned by the Schoff family. Their son, Cpl Brian James “BJ” Schoff, was killed in action in Baghdad, Iraq on 1/28/2006.

The family contacted Robert Powell of AirbrushGuy & Company (the same shop that did Karla's Hummer) and asked that he create them a memorial that captured and portrayed what Brian meant to his family and friends.

The Jeep's artist, R. Powell, is a veteran and currently has a daughter and son-in-law serving in the United States Air Force. "I have a strong connection to servicemen and women and the sacrifice they make in providing safety and security for our great nation.” Powell states. “I hope the work I have created will inspire others to thank our military personnel especially those who gave their all."
“It is really heart warming to be chosen to be a part of something like this.” Powell states. “But when you are painting and suddenly you realize that you share a birthday with this man who died too young, it really gets to you.”

Here are some pictures of the memorial created for Cpl Brian James “BJ” Schoff:

Murtha Refuses to Apologize to Marines

Jason Mattera (Young America's Foundation) confronted Rep. Jack Murtha asking if he would like to apologize for besmirching the Marines now that all charges in the Haditha case are in the process of being dropped. Needless to say, Murtha remains unrepentant.

Here's a little taste for those of you that can't watch/get YouTube at work, but Murtha's demeanor is priceless so be sure to watch it later...

"Would you like to issue and apology for saying that they killed innocent civilians in cold blood?" Mattera asks.

"Is there still a trial going on?" Murtha answers smugly.

"Do you like besmirching our troops Sir? Do you like besmirching our troops Sir?"

"Have you ever been in the service? I enlisted... blah blah blah"

"Sir, you accused them of killing innocent civilians in cold blood. That's something that would come from Al Jezeera, not a Congressman Sir!"

    Everyone has their price, huh?

Yale Law School will end its policy of not working with military recruiters following a court ruling this week that jeopardized about $300 million in federal funding, school officials said Wednesday.

Yale and other universities had objected to the Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell" policy that allows gay men and women to serve in the military only if they keep their sexual orientation to themselves. Yale Law School had refused to assist military recruiters because the Pentagon wouldn't sign a nondiscrimination pledge.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Yale on Monday, rejecting its argument that its right to academic freedom was infringed by federal law that says universities must give the military the same access as other job recruiters or forfeit federal money.

"The fact is we have been forced under enormous pressure to acquiescence in a policy that we believe is deeply offensive and harmful to our students," said Robert Burt, a Yale law professor who was lead plaintiff in the case.

The funding loss would have devastated the university's medical research into cancer, heart disease and other illnesses, Burt said.
You see how liberals' principles are for sale. Pretty cheap, too, given the over $1 billion dollars in endowments that Yale owns.

I like how he threw in that comment about medical research. So I guess the whole $300 million went into medical research and that can't be replaced elsewhere, huh? And none of that $300 mill went anywhere else. Bad, bad Bush government, threatening to cancel cancer research. Oh, my!

Guess Bloomberg's Not Running in '08

How is it that a story comes out Monday claiming the US is contemplating a war plan for Iran, then a story Tuesday that claims Iran is threatening missile attacks against the US...and Wednesday's story? That NY mayor Michael Bloomberg might escort Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to GROUND ZERO.

"...In a move that has stunned New York, the Bloomberg administration is in discussions to escort the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to ground zero during his visit to New York next week, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said today.

The Iranian mission to the U.N. made the request to the New York City Police Department and the Secret Service, which will jointly oversee security during the leader's two-day visit. Mr. Ahmadinejad is scheduled to arrive September 24 to speak to the U.N. General Assembly as the Security Council decides whether to increase sanctions against his country for its uranium enrichment program..." (source)

Why would this man, here in the US because of his direct defiance of the US and UN, be allowed to step foot on the gounds where the Twin towers once stood? A man that places no value on Western life, a man that is funding and commanding "insurgents" that are killing the men and women that signed up because of that tragic day...

Update (I'm updating before it's even posted): The NYPD has 9thankfully) denied Ahmadinejad's ground Zero request:
"...New York City, moving swiftly in the face of outrage from the White House to the political hustings to the Jewish community, is rejecting a request by President Ahmadinejad to lay a wreath at Ground Zero when the Iranian is in New York next week for a meeting of the United Nations..." (source)

Update II: Apparently Ahmadinejad's role in kidnapping Americans, denying the Holocaust or orchestrating the deaths of American troops in Iraq won't hinder Columbia university from having him speak at their campus on Monday. (source)

    Snakes on a Plane...

And here we all thought Samuel L. Jackson's movie stretched beyond the ridiculous...

"...The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has fined a man $800 for flying dead snakes and birds inside his luggage from South Korea to Atlanta.

Last month, security officers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport found 30 snakes, a dead bird and pieces of several other birds in his luggage.

All the animals were dead, but screeners took extra precautions because U.S. Fish and Wildlife officers warned that some of the snakes, packed inside jars and bottles, could still contain venom.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife officers issued two citations against the man - one for failing to declare the unusual cargo and another for violating laws intended to protect endangered species..." (source)

Here's the thing...customs officers tore apart my entire bag (ripping the zipper in the process) convinced I "had an apple" packed in there. An evil U.K. apple... As I told them it was a one-cup coffee maker and I was left with tape and a year's worth of close to cram back into the bag myself... How the heck did this guy get through screening with over 30 snakes and countless dead birds. Dead animals vs. a suspected apple.... Hmmmm.

Student Tasered for Over-Questioning John Kerry (Real Story)

A student was shot by a taser gun in Florida while Senator John Kerry was looking on. The whole thing was caught on tape and you can watch unedited video of the student's question, and arrest in the video tab here on

The student was asking Senator Kerry a question but his microphone was cut off when he went over the time allowed. Authorities say they were forced to subdue the student, and one of them shot him with a taser gun..." (source)

First of all, the video is really disturbing. Apparently Kerry droned on forever and this kid (a COMPLETE and total LEFTY), during the subsequent Q&A, just wanted to say that he thought Kerry WON the 2004 election and basically just wanted to know why he conceded to Bush. They drag him away from the mic and proceed to cuff him and use a taser gun on him multiple times while he screams in pain, pleads for an explanation of his arrest and help from onlookers...and Kerry just keeps talking and pretends that ONE OF HIS SUPPORTERS that VOTED FOR HIM IN 2004 isn't being completely and inappropriately subdued for asking a question.

Thank God Bush "stole the election."

If you couldn't tell I was really disturbed by this. I'm not saying the kid isn't annoying as hell, but when did I move to Iran?

Israeli Rabbi Reveals the Name of the Messiah

"Shortly before he died, one of Israel's most prominent rabbis wrote the name of the Messiah on a small note which he requested would remain sealed until now. When the note was opened, it revealed what many have known for centuries: Yehoshua, or Yeshua (Jesus), is the Messiah..." (Read the entire article)

    "Alive Day"

"From Executive Producer James Gandolfini: Alive Day Memories - Home From Iraq"

If you have HBO you really have to watch this new documentary (If you don't...why?!).

James Gandolfini, of Soprano/True Romance fame, is the executive producer and on-camera interviewer of ten OIF veterans that survived hostile attacks while serving in Iraq. The film is sad, moving and most of all inspiring...but thankfully, never political.

From HBO's site: "Gandolfini, who has visited the troops in Iraq on behalf of the USO, serves as executive producer. In ALIVE DAY MEMORIES he interviews ten soldiers who reveal their feelings on their future, their severe disabilities and their devotion to America. Their first-person stories are augmented by harrowing footage from the war-torn streets of Iraq, and from embedded cameras in the vehicles of the soldiers, which was shot when they were injured, as well as disturbing video of IED (Improvised Explosive Device) bombings released by insurgents, and soldiers' personal home videos and photographs." (source)

25,000 Soldiers and Marines have been wounded in this war...this is a small glimpse at their new reality. I HIGHLY recommend seeing this.

Overheard in the House of Sage...

Busta (oldest son): "At recess today N___ told me there were special places that two boys can go to get married. You can't just do it anywhere, only certain places because a lot of people don't like it."

Ninja (little one): "Nuh-uh. Two boys? Married? That's gross. You're supposed to marry a girl."

Busta: Well, I don't know why but some boys like other boys.

Ninja: "Well...what do they say when they get married? I now pronounce you....GAY!"

Needless to say, I almost peed my pants.

We're Already At War With Iran...

"...Senior American intelligence and defense officials believe that President George W Bush and his inner circle are taking steps to place America on the path to war with Iran, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

Pentagon planners have developed a list of up to 2,000 bombing targets in Iran, amid growing fears among serving officers that diplomatic efforts to slow Iran's nuclear weapons programme are doomed to fail.

Pentagon and CIA officers say they believe that the White House has begun a carefully calibrated programme of escalation that could lead to a military showdown with Iran.

Now it has emerged that Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, who has been pushing for a diplomatic solution, is prepared to settle her differences with Vice-President Dick Cheney and sanction military action.

In a chilling scenario of how war might come, a senior intelligence officer warned that public denunciation of Iranian meddling in Iraq - arming and training militants - would lead to cross border raids on Iranian training camps and bomb factories..." (source)

Before you start to get upset over this...don't think of it as a "new war", just think of it as our Soldiers and Marines finally getting to hit at the heart of the evil minions they've been fighting in Iraq all this time.

    Blackwater: Public Enemy #1

The guys at Blackwater (most former military special forces) have been smeared since the day the war in Iraq began. Dubbed "Killers for hire" and "Mercenaries" they have fought alongside their former brothers in unarmored humvees and shed blood for the same cause. Somehow, since they work for a private company and are getting paid about $100K (if I've been told the right numbers) they are bad people? Would you go to Iraq for 9 months for $100K? Why can't anyone thank them for their former service and be happy that they are finally being paid what they're worth (still not enough to take a trip to hell IMO)? I digress...

Blackwater is back in the news, not for redesigning the security procedures in all the schools in the Outer Banks (which they did pro-bono), but because it seems they have been "banned from Iraq" by the security minister. The charge against them? they "killed civilians" of course. Duh, everyone there is a civilian. Much like Haditha, the Blackwater guys encountered hostile fire and a possible ambush. They reacted accordingly. These aren't FNGs, these men are highly trained former military personnel. I've held a Blackwater application in my me, these guys are the cream of the crop.

"...Since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the notoriously secretive company has found its niche in selling security directly. Blackwater has earned hundreds of millions of dollars fielding what critics contend is essentially a private army in Iraq and other hotspots, where it has often employed aggressive tactics that some call reckless and possibly criminal.

Those critics now include the Iraqi Interior Ministry, which said Monday it had revoked Blackwater's license to operate following a chaotic weekend shootout that Iraqi authorities say left eight civilians dead and 13 injured.

"The 'civilians' reportedly fired upon by Blackwater professionals were in fact armed enemies and Blackwater personnel returned defensive fire," company spokeswoman Anne Tyrrell said late Monday. "Blackwater regrets any loss of life, but this convoy was violently attacked by armed insurgents, not civilians, and our people did their job to defend human life."

Robert Young Pelton, an independent military analyst who spent a month with a Blackwater team in Baghdad while researching his book, "Licensed to Kill," said Blackwater contractors No. 1 priority is keeping their high-value clients alive.

"The Blackwater guys are not fools," Pelton said. "If they were gunning down people it was because they felt it was the beginning of an ambush."

It wasn't immediately clear if the Iraqi action against Blackwater was temporary or permanent. But if Blackwater is forced to leave Iraq, where it has at least $800 million in government contracts, the privately held company based at a 7,000-acre compound in tiny Moyock stands to lose a huge piece of its burgeoning business." (source)

(Pic: My sis, AB, in front of the Blackwater compound when we were in NC 2 years ago. We were hoping to catch a glimpse of the massive facility and drove through miles of cornfields to find it --As you can see...there is nothing you can see but the sign.)

    Hillary's Healthcare Part Deux

I think people assume that anyone against universal healthcare/socialized medicine is a well-off fat cat with a great benefit package or enough cash flow to purchase their own with no problem. This isn't the case. During the 5+ years that The Man owned his own business there were more times than not that we had no healthcare. We paid OOP for any problems that would arise or regular checkups. Many of the small business owners we know are in the same situation. It's cheaper to pay when there's a problem (keeping your fingers crossed that it isn't a big one) than pay the $600/mo premiums.

Even though all that stress, I am still against government run and managed health care. My two experiences with it have been much less than sub-par. Between the Police and Fire Clinic (where Philly PD and FD and their families were forced to go back in the day --they have Personal Choice now) and living in the U.K. for a's not something I care to relive.

Yesterday Hillary announced her Mulligan healthcare plan:
"...The $110-billion-a-year plan avoids some of the biggest political landmines of that 1993-1994 effort. Instead of forcing people into big buying cooperatives — back then, she called them "alliances" — her new proposal allows people who like their health insurance to keep it. Her earlier plan would have established a big new government bureaucracy to determine things like what specific benefits should be required for all Americans; her new one does not. And while it contains a version of her earlier plan's controversial "employer mandate," requiring businesses to provide coverage for their workers, it exempts small employers." (source)

But some have noticed that mums the word when it comes to the coverage of illegals under her newest proposal:
"...At a press briefing after Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's health care rollout Monday, senior policy advisers said the New York senator's plan does not currently include any details on whether illegal immigrants will be covered." (source)
I imagine most of you are familiar, at least in passing, with Michael Totten. He is an independent journalist who is currently in Iraq. He is financed by reader donations and publishes on his website,

Via Instapundit I read this article this morning. Very touching, especially the pictures, like the one above. This is a town than, only 4 months ago, was terrorized. The people of Ramadi welcomed AQI (Al Qaeda in Iraq) but soon found out that they had invited the wolf into the kitchen. AQI began to ravage the town, and, indeed, the whole province of Anbar. As Michael reported, if the rulers didn't like something about you, they showed up at your house in the middle of the night and raped your wife and children.

And yet, sadly, there are those in the US that think our police are worse. That our soldiers are terrorizing women and children in the dark of night (right Senator Kerry?).

The success reported by Totten in Anbar could be, and (I believe) will be replicated throughout Iraq. However, that requires support. The Iraqi army and police forces are not trusted enough throughout the country to finish the job without help. They are not well enough supplied or trained. The people of Iraq, like that little girl in the picture, need us. Need U.S.

I can't pull from the article because you, really, should read the whole thing. And throw a few buck his way if you see fit.

    Suing God

Nebraska Democratic State Senator Ernie Chambers has decided to go straight to the top in an effort to stop natural disasters from befalling the world.

Chambers filed a lawsuit against God in Douglas County Court Friday afternoon, KPTM Fox 42 reported.

The suit asks for a "permanent injunction ordering Defendant to cease certain harmful activities and the making of terroristic threats."

The lawsuit identifies the plaintiff as, "the duly elected and serving State Senator from the 11th Legislative District in Omaha, Nebraska."

Chambers also cites that the, "defendant directly and proximately has caused, inter alia, fearsome floods, egregious earthquakes, horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornados, pestilential plagues..." (source)
No word yet on whether Morgan Freeman is available for court appearances.
