The USA Values Families the Least?
For all of our talk about "family values" and "it takes a village", an article in the August 2007 edition of National Geographic ("Who Gives parents a Break") elucidates the fact that we don't back up our talk with the cash... Worse than that, we are one of the five WORST countries in the world.
If you want to spend time with your newborn and not be penalized for it, the best place to live is Slovenia (52 weeks leave at full wages). In Ota, Japan even the men must take 40 days of paid leave.
Now, if we are going to persist in 70 million social programs and keep growing the government, why can't this be one of the investments. The family is a worthy investment and one that will pay off.
