"Anybody who actually watched the Live Earth broadcast on television is in the same, special minority of people who are entertained by what they see after a lazy afternoon of sniffing glue and performing the sort of toad licking activities that can only be classified as amphibian sexual harassment. Those who didn’t watch it missed out on a broadcast that featured a number of B list musical acts for whom the ability to carry a tune and be sober while performing are both helpful suggestion, but not mandatory for live music. Those watching would also have heard a lot of rhetoric that called for personal and government action to avert an imaginary man made climate crisis.
The calls by RFK Jr. for people to get involved in the political process to find a governmental solution to global warming came a scant few weeks after Hillary Clinton decried the evils of an “ownership society”. In New Hampshire , she laid out her direction for America with these words: “It's time for a new beginning. For an end to government of the few by the few and for the few. Time to reject the idea of an on-your-own society and to replace it with shared responsibility for shared prosperity. I prefer a ‘we're all in it together’ society”.
A couple of things became clear here. The most obvious revelation was that somebody seems to have poured Yoo-Hoo or Mr. Pib into the Kennedy gene pool. The children of JFK and RFK are but pale reflections of their fathers. RFK Jr. is currently spouting the sort of stupidity that would make one think that Teddy Kennedy snuck into the bedroom of his sister-in-law and is the real sire of this twit. The second thing about what is being said from our friends on the left is that they have either never read the Constitution; Don’t care about the Constitution; or are reasonably confident that they have dumbed down the country to the point where citizens don’t know what is in the Constitution.
The words that come out of their mouths (such as “shared responsibility for shared prosperity”) are in direct conflict with our founding document. In fact most liberal ideas (Nationalized Health care, Welfare, Federally Funded Abortions, etc.) are undeniably unconstitutional.
“Shared responsibility” as well as federal efforts to curb global warming both requires the government to take money from the people and re-distribute it elsewhere; or in the words of Mrs. Bill Clinton, to provide prosperity for everyone. The word “provide” is only used in reference to two situations in our Constitution. First, we must provide for the common defense. Last time I checked the “Midnight Basketball” program was not set up to somehow defend the homeland against an invasion of unwashed heathens pouring over the Canadian border.
The second instance of the word “provide” describes the succession of leadership that the government must provide if the President dies, goes nuts, or commits a crime like using a chubby intern as a cigar snipper and then goes on to perjure himself when talking about the situation under oath (that would never happen of course). The other societal changes that are being demanded by Democrats actually require a Constitutional Amendment.
Of course why bother with a long and uncertain amendment process when you can just get the Congress and courts to take a shortcut through our founding documents. If they win the White House they may get rid of the pesky election process as well. If they are going to use our Constitution as bathroom tissue, theymight as well go all the way. Of course they will only use it one sheet at at time. That will keep Sheryl Crow and the rest of the Hollywood eco-nazis happy.
