Cold Cash

Remember this guy? This is the guy that had $90,000 in cool cash in his freezer during Katrina. He commandeered an Army Guard truck and several members to go to his house and rescue his stuff.

Weeeehhhheeellllll, golly, look at this: Jury Indicts Jefferson in Bribery Probe. It must be false. It can only be a Rovian concoction of the vast right wing conspiracy. After all, it was the Republicans that were the Culture of Corruption, remember? The new Democrat leadership swept all that away, right? This is the guy that Pelosi wanted to be the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, settling instead for Homeland Security. He used to be on the Ways and Means committee. This gave him means to find ways to accumulate more cash.

Here is what Speaker Pelosi had to say about that:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today following the federal indictment of Congressman William Jefferson of Louisiana:

“The charges in the indictment against Congressman Jefferson are extremely serious. While Mr. Jefferson, just as any other citizen, must be considered innocent until proven guilty, if these charges are proven true, they constitute an egregious and unacceptable abuse of public trust and power.

“As we have demonstrated in implementing tough ethics reforms and passing tough lobbying reforms already this year, Democrats are committed to upholding a high ethical standard and eliminating corruption and unethical behavior from the Congress.”

It's too bad Pelosi and her buddy Murtha don't feel this way about Republicans and military members who are accused and not even indicted.
