"More teens are going under the knife than ever before.
The number of teen breast implant surgeries nationwide has tripled in the past decade and doctors say the trend is evident right here in Arkansas.
Despite the risks, the statistics show three times as many women underwent breast implant surgery in 2002 than in 1992. Then between the years 2002 and 2003 the number rose another 24% to just over 38-hundred teenagers.
This onetime patient who asked not to be identified had the surgery 5 years ago at age 19. But she says it was not because of peer pressure or magazine covers..." (source)
Breast implants (done by a reputable doctor) are aesthetically pleasing...How could they not be? They are symmetrical, hand sculpted and defy that evil mistress called gravity. BUT, I don't understand why these girls aren't being urged to wait until later in life when they actually need them --like after giving birth and nursing babies... This surgery is a God-send for cancer survivors, but I worry that teens are placing their "value" on their chest...and at the end of the day the surgery won't help their inner worth.
There's no way to describe the pain of this surgery. I've never had an 18-wheeler parked on my chest, but I think I've endured what it would be like. I can't imagine going through it purely for a size increase... Well, unless you're Kate Hudson.
