J.Marquis had a post up the other day about all the "scandals" of the Bush Administration...
Of course, I take issue with most of them being scandalous at all. But I decided to play along as best I could. Not to say one wrong excuses another, but just to show the blindness of the left when it comes to Bush. If these same people had raised the same concerns during the Clinton or carter administrations...it would be much easier to stomach their indignity now... Marquis' "scandals' are bolded:
1. Texas Air National Guard disappearance
Maybe the left has forgotten that Clinton actually dodged the draft. There may be a dispute over the amount of hours that Bush logged, but he didn't flee to another country.
2. Ken Lay connection
maybe the left has forgotten that Clinton helped Ken Lay get a $3 billion power plant project in India for Enron. Four days before the deal went through, Enron gave $100,000 to the Democratic party.
3. Cheney energy task force
Maybe the left forgets Clinton's "energy plan" which was basically taxing BTU's...but failed to distinguish between more or less "polluting energy sources" causing even the "Environmental Protection Agency projects the pollution reductions in tenths of a percent" (source)
4. Failure to prevent 9/11
The left always forgets that "During a February 2002 speech, Clinton explained that he turned down an offer from Sudan for bin Laden's extradition to the U.S., saying, "At the time, 1996, he had committed no crime against America, so I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him."
But that wasn't exactly true. By 1996, the 9/11 mastermind had already been named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing by prosecutors in New York." (source)
5. Selling of the Iraq war
Maybe the left forgets that "Clinton administration officials in the late 1990s and beyond were making regular references to Saddam, his WMD programs and association with al-Qaida." (source
6. Halliburton overbilling
Maybe the left forgets that "...The Clinton administration made the same calculation in its own dealings with Halliburton. The company had won the LOGCAP in 1992, then lost it in 1997. The Clinton administration nonetheless awarded a no-bid contract to Halliburton to continue its work in the Balkans supporting the U.S. peacekeeping mission there because it made little sense to change midstream. According to Byron York, Al Gore's reinventing-government panel even singled out Halliburton for praise for its military logistics work..." (source)
7. Journalists working for White House
8. Gay hooker White House correspondent
Is this the left judging? The party of tolerance? What's wrong with being a gay hooker? How is the White House responsible for that? How is being a gay hooker journalist worse than a KKK senator, a drunk Senator, or a rapist?
Maybe the left forgets Waco. And that Bush doesn't control the weather.
10. Muzzling climate scientists
Is that a joke?
11. Medicare prescription plan (no negotiating prices)
The left is blaming him for the most progressive move of his administration?
12. Missing 9 billion in Iraq
Okay, that is really bad.
13. Abu Ghraib
Maybe the left forgets Juanita Broaddrick.
14. Connections to Jack Abramoff
Maybe the left has forgotten about all the Dems connected with Abramoff..."Turns out, Mrs. Clinton is among the dozens of Democrats who accepted Mr. Abramoff's tainted contributions. Clinton spokeswoman Ann Lewis told The Buffalo News on Thursday that "after examining our records we found two contributions for $1,000 from tribes which have been clients of Jack Abramoff in the past." (source)
15. Scalia goes duck hunting with Cheney
That's a scandal?
16. Scooter Libby convicted
Maybe the left doesn't know that the Clinon Administration had the highest number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates, and the highest number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation --47 individuals and businesses associated with the Clinton machine were convicted of or pleaded guilty to crimes with 33 of these occurring during the Clinton administration itself (more than Watergate). (source)
17. Walter Reed scandal
Maybe the left forgets they, not us, believe the government can handle health care efficiently. And forgets all the military cuts under Clinton.
18. US Attorneys pressured to indict Dems
Maybe the left forgets Fitzy?
19. Social Security Reform scam
How is privatizing something a "scandal". It's a scandal to assume people can handle their own money more efficiently than a government that takes 76 cents on the dollar in welfare administrative costs when charities can run for pennies on the dollar?
20. Cheney shoots his buddy in the face
How is a hunting accident a scandal? Maybe the left forgets Vince Foster and Mary Jo Kopechne.
He forgot the Patriot Act...to which I would have pointed out "In the wake of Oklahoma City, the Clinton administration proposed restricting habeas corpus and increasing wiretaps."
I ran throught this pretty quickly...so please feel free to add to the list...
