Pass De Gavel to the Left-Hand Side...

So, the Dems take over the Congress today and apparently they have a "First 100 Hours Plan" --amazingly, no...it doesn't involve impeaching the President and ripping out Rummy's fingernails.

Here's the revolutionary list -the things these Dems have been waiting over a decade to get their hands on...

1) Raise the federal minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour.
2) Curb lobbyists’ influence by banning meals and gifts to lawmakers (no more Sierra Club sweatshirts?)
3) Repeal subsidies for the oil industry.
4) Cut college loan interest rates in half.
5) Reduce RX drug prices for seniors.
6) Pass a bill that allows expanded federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.
7) Implement all the unfulfilled recommendations of the 9/11 commission (well, not all of them).

It may not be in the first push, but some Dems are also looking to make social security available to ILLEGALS. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but the whole hoopla over SS was that there wasn't going to be enough left for my generation after the baby boomers went through it...

Dems plan to shut out Republicans from this first 100 hours. What is most interesting about this is on June 24, 2004 Ms. Pelosi herself proposed a 'House Bill of Rights' for the minority party, "whichever party that may be":

"Pelosi's document, which she vows to honor if Democrats regain the majority, says: "Too often, incivility and the heavy hand of the majority" have silenced Democrats and choked off "thoughtful debate." She called on the majority to let the minority offer meaningful amendments and substitutes to important bills; to limit roll-call votes to the normal 15 minutes rather than keeping them open to round up needed votes; and to let all appointees to House-Senate conference committees participate in meetings and decisions." (source)

And how many times during the run up to the election and after the results were in did Pelosi drone on about "civility and bi-partisanship" and "partnership not partisanship"? Isn't the internet great...so easy to use one's own words to keep them honest now...

--It also seems that Sheehan and her ilk aren't just annoying the right anymore... they heckled incoming Democrats while they attempted to hold press conferences with chants and jeers of "de-escalate, investigate, troops home now" basically shutting down the planned speeches.(source)
