I'm sure you've heard by now that London's 'Sunday Times' reported that Israel is planning a nuclear strike against Tehran's uranium enrichment facilities.
Not only has Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for Israel to be "wiped off the map", but has held Holocaust denial conferences in Iran. If I were living in Israel, I can't think of anything more disconcerting than a nuclear-equipped Iran. I can't blame them for exploring the possibility of a pre-emptive strike to disable the possibility of Ahmadinejad's ambitions being brought to fruition...
Yet, the reality of Israel using military force against Tehran could be the catalyst for world-wide nuclear holocaust. Obviously the entire Middle East would errupt (putting our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan -and even in Bosnia- in greater peril). Either Michael Smerconish or Glenn Beck (can't remember which one) also pointed out that Musharraf has a very tenuous hold on his government -if he was overthrown and Pakistan (also a nuclear power) was taken over by Islamic Fundamentalists...well, you get the point.
Israel is denying these reports (but what else would they do?)
All this while the impotent UN is being told by "Iran’s supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that Iran would not back down from developing its nuclear program, despite sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council last month.
Iran’s supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, says Iran will continue its nuclear program.
Ayatollah Khamenei, 67, has the final word on state matters, including nuclear policies.
“The Iranian people will definitely not give up their right and the authorities have no right to give up this great achievement,” Ayatollah Khamenei said." (source)
