Even with the Philly population declining at about 10,000 people each year, we are still ranked the 5th largest city...yet we are not to be found on the "15 largest cities in the share of adults with at least a bachelor’s degree" list... According to the newly released census data. (source1, source2)
As evidenced by this story (This was the real headline by the way):
New Solution To Philly Violence: Hire Ex-Cons
"...City councilman Wilson Goode Junior says in September he'll introduce a bill that will increase that credit if the new job is earmarked for an ex-offender..." (source)
(If the name rings a bell, his father is the infamous Mayor Good that bombed Philly during the 1985 MOVE debacle)
I believe it also said we were one of the oldest cities with tons of the over 65 crowd --which explains why driving is so aggravating here...
Anyway, that's the innocuous news from the census. I can deal with living among the dolts...but the rest of the outlook is pretty upsetting.
