A.N.S.W.E.R. Calls for Full Amnesty for Everyone...
Here is an excerpt from a email than ANSWER sent to its members (Needless to say, ANSWER advocates full amnesty):
"The massive protests, rallies, walk-outs and political strikes by immigrant workers and their supporters have shaken the political establishment in this country. It has been the action of the people themselves that has changed the political climate. All eyes have been focused on the streets as this new civil rights/workers rights movement has exploded in Los Angeles, Chicago and literally hundreds of other cities and towns." (ANSWER email)
Here is the crux of the problem (and obviously the propaganda war)... Americans don't have a problem with immigrant workers. They have a problem with ILLEGAL immigrant workers. Once again, they're trying to use the race/minority card. Second, these protests (which seem a bit pointless now that Congress is recessed) are bringing negative attention. I think Americans' eyes are being opened to the massive volumes of illegals that obviously are NOT working if they are walking, protesting and waving the FLAG OF THE COUNTRY THEY DON'T WANT TO GO BACK TO.
"Join immigrants and supporters to make Monday, May 1, 2006 a national “day without an immigrant.” Anti-immigrant politicians and hatemongers call immigrants “a drain on society” - they try to pass repressive legislation like HR 4437 and encourage groups like the racist “Minutemen.” But immigrants contribute billions to the economy and receive few benefits in return. We will settle for nothing less than full amnesty and dignity for the millions of undocumented workers presently in the United States. Let’s show the government, corporations and racist politicians that a powerful, united peoples’ movement has the power to win Civil Rights, workers’ rights and make history. No business as usual on May 1!" (ANSWER email)
How is it that the people that don't want to turn a blind eye to a FELONY become the racist bad guys? How does this have anything to do with race?
One of my very best friends is half Columbian and half Filipino. Her parents immigrated from their homes legally, went to college and became thriving assets to this country. One working for NASA and the other holding 3 doctorate degrees. Could they have accomplished what they did if they had come here illegally? Absolutely not...because their first act in this country would have been an illegal one...and all subsequent actions would be based around that first felonious act. A lesson most learn very young is the whole -something can't be built on unstable ground lesson. Right?
So, I continue to struggle to understand why groups like ANSWER and people like Teddy Kennedy aren't protesting the Mexican government and Vicente Fox for creating such a poor economic environment, in a country so rich in natural resources and tourism, that people are dying to get out of there...
Free advice to illegals and protestors:
This is really no way to endear yourselves to the American public. Just sayin'...
