I have absolutely no problem with social clubs that exclude people. I believe it's their prerogative to do so. Women join "Curves" gym to work out with no men there --if men did that, women would have taken them to court for admission already. What I do think is wrong, is when you criticize someone for joining an exclusive club in an attempt to publicly humiliate them, if you are a member of one yourself...
During Samuel Alito's confirmation hearings, Teddy Kennedy was relentless in his questioning and criticism of Alito's ancient membership in a Princeton University club that denied membership to women and minorities.
...Then yesterday Kennedy decided to end his current membership in a Harvard affiliated organization that has a "men only" policy.
"No one can question Senator Kennedy's lifelong commitment to fighting for civil rights, equality and justice", said Kennedy's spokesperson. (source)
