Looters: Let's Clear the Air...

Karl, proprietor of Philly Future, has a heartfelt post up about "the looters" in New Orleans. He is angry that people are using the word "looter" for people that have nothing...

We need to define this term.

*I* do not consider the taking life-sustaining staples "looting". Water, food, diapers... I have not once gotten the impression that others (on either side of the aisle) feel that way either. It seems pretty apparent that these people have nothing and had no way to leave after the mandatory evacuation.

When I speak of "looters" I am referring to the man struggling with the large TV, the man running from a store with a stack of $200 jeans, the people picking through dead bodies, the people going into the houses of the dead and stealing personal possessions, and those breaking into the casinos. These people, yes the same ones that are shooting at the rescue choppers and shooting policemen with AK-47s, are the "looters" of whom I speak.

Not the mom looking to keep her 6 month old baby alive...
