Irresistible Headlines...

Liz sent me links to these two stories with the RE: "Irresistible Headlines" and they are indeed...

#1)Convicted Child Murderer Wins $50,000 Lawsuit
Yes, you read that right. He sued Kanawha County in West Virginia when he fell out of the back of a prisoner transport van. This past Monday, "a jury awarded him $30,000 for past mental and physical pain and suffering; $10,000 for annoyance and inconvenience and another $10,000 for loss of enjoyment of life." He was recently convicted of sexual assulat and had been previously convicted of murdering a two-year old, and from escaping from jail. Who the hell was on that jury!? 10K for "loss of enjoyment in life"?! WTF? (source)

#2)Executed Woman Gets Pardon
Lena Baker, the only woman ever executed by electric chair in Georgia, has been pardoned...sixty years after the flipped the switch.
"A black maid, she was convicted for killing a white man she said held her in slavery and threatened her life. After a one-day trial before an all-white, all-male jury, she was sentenced to death.
The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles is not finding her innocent of the crime. Instead, the board has decreed that a 1945 decision denying her clemency was a "grievous error" -- saying the case "called out for mercy." (source)
