A Serious Question For All of You...

...that think President Bush is wrong for not allowing more federal funding for stem cell research...

Clear your mind.

Now answer this. If someone approached Bill Gates or Oprah (someone with serious F-you money) with a business proposal that would stand to double or triple their millions in addition to helping scores of people...Do you think they would say no?

If there was a firm belief in the palpability of embryonic stem cells actually curing all the diseases on the table --do you honestly believe that the Bayer Corporation, Eli Lilly and Company, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Merck & Co., Inc., or Pfizer Inc. wouldn't have jumped all over it? Think of the money that these companies could make if they could cure childhood diabetes, Alzheimer’s and paralysis. It would be worth EVERY penny that they put into research. Now remember that Bush is only opposing FEDERAL money being used and has made NO restriction on PRIVATE research using embryonic stem cells. So why haven't these companies raced to start developing?

It seems to me that it's a pipe dream. Wishful thinking that each person with a seriously ill family member understandably wants to indulge in. I have spoken with two neurologists at length about this, and both agreed that the chances of embryonic stem cells curing any of these diseases (especially Alzheimer’s) is slim to none...and that the hope actually lies in harvesting a person's OWN stem cells and using them...
