*sigh* Social Security...a 'Crisis'?

...that's what Bill Clinton called it in 1998. A "Crisis"...
(*I am going to make this short and sweet because this BORES the HELL out of me...*)
His warning was about "the looming fiscal crisis in Social Security" that "affects every generation." (source) Al Gore also lamented the impending doom of social security during the 2000 election. I also listened to an FDR speech (which I can't find again, so if anyone can send it to me I would greatly appreciate it) were FDR clearly states his long-run intentions for social security...which included people controlling their own accounts. Many of the Democrats that were nodding their heads at everything Clinton said about the coming downfall of S.S. are now holding Town Hall Meetings rebuking Bush's plans (Hillary included).

...I figured out what this is all about. It hit me the other night while I was about to fall asleep...

Bush is commandeering all the liberal issues and the libs are in a panic. The viability of their party is at stake. Democrats have been promising to reform education for years --regardless of what you think the outcome has been, Bush has done it with NCLB. Democrats have been promising immigration reform, but have yet to actually delve into this hot button issue --Bush is attempting to do so with his Guest Worker program. Democrats have been talking about world peace forever --and Bush is working tirelessly to promote Democracy and freedom throughout the Middle East and the world. Democrats have been talking about 'fixing social security' for years...and now Bush is looking to get it done.

Their party is in a lose-lose situation. If they support this reform and it goes through --the Republicans will have another 'liberal' issue in the bag...but if they block it and Social Security begins to crumble --it will be the end of their party. What's a lib to do?

I do not want to hear about any baby-boomers and elderly people that are against reforms...THIS WILL NOT EFFECT YOU...it will effect US --the ones that are currently paying for you...Your benefits will remain...but when we get to the age you are now there will be NOTHING THERE... FDR envisioned a higher percentage of privatization that Bush is proposing -and he envisioned it already in play... Even after reading hundreds of articles, documents and proposals about this I still don't know enough to give you a definitive opinion based in facts and figures... What I can say for sure is that the Democrats thought it was a 'looming fiscal crisis' until Bush made it his priority. Their opposition is obviously partisan and not based in the well being of their constituents....

The GOP is hijacking the liberal causes --because they have always been our causes too...with the appointment of Dean to the DNC and the success of President Bush's plans, I am predicting demise to the Democratic Party as we know it...
