My poor feet...oh, and the FIRST LADY!

Yes, we (Justrose from the The Anonymous Rowhouse and I) just got back from seeing Laura Bush speak at a local university. I see that you have all been having fun while I was gone and may choose to continue the age-old WMD debate...but I am going to recount this great evening.

Drove past a smattering of protestors (about 7) and almost crashed the Jeep attempting to make the left turn while holding up my Bush/Cheney sign to them (Rose closing her eyes in the passenger seat)...

Stood in line forever with the sun beating down on us while contemplating who we thought was sexier -the military boys or the secret service we were surrounded by...the military boys still win (narrowly)...

Went through secret service security checks and showed all forms of identification and the insides of our purses (mine being a Coach of course -they didn't seem to notice) and noticed a computer printed sheet with names of individuals who were not to be let in...Imagination goes wild -who were these people? I wish I remembered their names so I could Google them...Rose suggests they are Moveon.org [mutants]...

After a very long time in line (unfortunately I opted for my very cute 4" heeled black boots) we were let into the auditorium. Sat with a great older couple that we met and did some priceless people-watching. There were the man-scouts -don't ask cause I don't know...people too big to be in cub scout uniforms...but in them none-the-less. Scanning the crowd for a non-white face...found a few. Looking at the 'Scoop Jackson' dude in the press pool...he obviously thought he was in a black-and-white movie. Overheard way-to-giddy woman talking about how many times her Bush/Cheney sign has been vandalized and how a Republican would never do that...then goes on to say she is thinking of putting fish hooks in it....

Pleasantly surprised to find Dom Giordano (local talk radio show host that I always call) is the MC. Small 11 yr. old blind(?)boy sings the National Anthem and Laura almost picks him up with her hug when he is done...

Laura looks great (she always does). Not a hair out of place, perfect suit and SO much prettier and younger looking in person. John Perzel talks to the crowd and talks about her most recent approval rating...80% !!!--Has a First Lady EVER had such a high approval rating? Maybe Jackie Kennedy. Laura is the polar opposite of THK (aka Tootsie). Laura is perfectly polished -Tootsie always looks messy...with a billion dollars you have no excuse to look messy. Laura is one of the best orators out there -Tootsie is an embarrassment every time she opens her mouth. Laura has spent her life in public service as a teacher and a school librarian -Tootsie married a millionaire. (a Republican millionaire)...

Laura's speech is great. She is warm and very gracious...she must be so sick of this. Sick of traveling, signing autographs, talking to weird people, being packed into crowds next to 'smelly' folks. Rose says that she must be such an extrovert to be able to do this. I tell Rose that Laura never wanted to do this...she had told Bushie that she never wanted him to run for public office. She says that she loves it now...but truthfully what is she going to say...

Wow, some of the old people are smelly...I know that sounds terrible, but truthfully. Note to old people...just because your olfactory senses are beginning to fail -it doesn't mean you have stopped stinking and need to shower less...it just means you can't smell the funk -have mercy on those of us who can!

Mad dash to the front to try to meet her -shake her hand and tell her I blog for Bushie...maybe slip her the URL? The SS agent to her right looks like the giant black guy in Lilo and Stich...he's pretty cool -he's almost as big as the guy Britney totes around with her. We smoosh through the crowd -knocking over nuns and mom's with infants to get right in front of her...I'm talking 5 or 6 feet -and they pull her away. Damn. I waded through the smelly folks for nothing! It's cool though -it was such a small venue and 1 or 2 times I SWEAR I thought she was looking right at me....she sensed the love...

On the way out there were two Moby look alikes with a sign that said "No More Lies, No More Bush"...this is not the place to win hearts and minds fellas. "So should we vote for a self-proclaimed war criminal instead?"....We get in a car (after I take off the EVIL 4" heels) and watch some more people coming out messing with the bald protestors -they wouldn't even look me in the eye...

So we return...no handshake, no autograph...but able to say that we saw the First Lady of the United States of America in a very small -invitation only- venue...and that she was beautiful and eloquent...and that we hope to keep grace (instead of base) in the White House for FOUR MORE YEARS!

Off Topic: Wild Bill has a great post on the "Liberal Manifesto" over at Passionate America. Check it out...

Glad you got to see her before she goes back to cookie baking in Texas! In seriousness, it's great to see people who make you happy. I'm just sad that she does make you so happy. But there you go. Go soak your feet.

ALa71 and company, Democrats and such. Forgive this huge post, but the good news is after this, I woun't have much left to debate. I've said what I have to say.

Some of you might remember in Ala71’s last thread entitled “Cheney whips the silky pony,” that I posed some questions to the Democrats who post on this blog about their candidates plans regarding the Special Forces and economic policy. I was disturbed when none of the Democrats made any attempt what so ever to answer just what Kerry plans to do with the most powerful office on Earth. There were a few attempts to cloud the subject and much rhetoric, and a lot of trash talk about the President, but not one attempt to answer. While I can draw many conclusions from your collective silence, I will choose to examine what I do know. The common topic on this blog is The War, specifically the Iraqi aspect of it. Was it the right thing to do? Are we doing it right? So on and so forth. Since we’ve been beating this horse for months, I was hoping we could change the subject just once, and further this most important debate on who is best to lead our country. You declined. Not just the Democrats, the Right didn’t bother either. So I am forced to assume that this is the only topic worth discussing. Okay, fine. Once again we will all attempt to “zinger,” each other. I can handle that.

From what I can gather from your arguments, the over riding consensus amongst you Democrats is that the conflict in Iraq is quote, “The wrong war at the wrong place at the wrong time.” You all seem to agree on this. Right?

I submit that you are wrong. When our country was attacked on September the 11th, we declared war. What we did not do was go on a hunt for “Public Enemy Number One.” We vowed to defeat terrorism where ever it was found. Collectively the nation stood as one and said that the nations of the world were either with us or against us. I ask you, was Iraq “With us,” Maybe we didn’t stand as one that day, because where the hell are you guys?

Iraq is the most critical battle field in the War on Terror. Some dispute this. I counter with a question. Where was the first battlefield the United States of America fought on in World War 2? Answer, Tunisia Africa. The Tunisians didn’t bomb Pearl Harbor, and for that matter neither did the Nazis we fought there. Yet Tunisians paid the price for freedom, and so did the Germans. They paid in lives. We realized in 1941 that fascism must be defeated wherever it’s found, regardless of our relationship to it. Much the same in 2001 “Some!” of us realized that evil, pure and twisted evil, must be defeated where ever it’s found, regardless of our relationship to it. I ask you, was Sadamm Hussein not evil? I ask you, can the United States and its beautiful and free people ever be free in a world inhabited by the sick and power hungry who control the will and warfare of millions? The answer is obviously no. Who cares where the nerve gas is, thank God they didn’t have any. The best part is, now they never will. More than that, we have strategy. Yes, dare I say it, cunning? We have Iraq, a smear in the eye of every terrorist on the planet. With every day we buy with our sacrifice and dieing we show the world our most powerful weapon, evidence. Evidence that Allah can not drive out the one true free nation of this Earth. With every Iraqi that can now buy a cell phone, grow rich off the oil he now controls, raise from the ashes of a fallen dictator and explode into the modern world, we show the Pan Arab nationalists dictators and fanatic Mullahs in Iran, and more importantly the people they oppress, that there is actual EVIDENCE that freedom is on the way. When a woman takes off her berka in Afghanistan and casts a vote we demonstrate evidence that the oppressors of the world are powerless against the collective will of the greatest nation on the planet. More importantly, when they see the benefits that capitalism and Democracy will always bring to a free people, they will see that we are NOT the great Satan, but indeed liberators and the spreaders of the true hope for mankind, freedom! They will see the evidence that we didn’t come for their oil, or their religion, but simply out of pure sacrifice to return them to the state all men and women have the right to live in. They will see the evidence just as Italy, Germany, and Japan once did. And like those countries they will become…our allies. Yes, when the Iraqis wake up and say “We support ourselves, govern ourselves, and who helped us? Even when we aided their enemies, shot them and killed them in the street. They forgave us and gave us this great gift. What have the terrorists ever have us but death?” Then much as the Japanese are today, we will have a staunch ally. And Afghanistan, and then Iran, and on and on. Some through conflict, some all on their own, and some through diplomacy we, this country, will free the ENTIRE WORLD. And when we do there will be a coalition the like of which John Kerry can hardly dream of. One where there is so much peace and prosperity, they will forget their chains as completely as France and Germany have forgotten theirs. We will never be meaningfully attacked again because countries of our enemies will be too happy to care.

Now you cynics out there forget that this nation is a slap in the face of human history. In seven thousand years we were the first real government by and for our own people. We helped to save the world from Imperialism in WWI and Fascism in WWII, where for the first time we saved the world. In that war we liberated half of Europe. And we got the other half by winning the Cold War, and saved the planet from nuclear destruction in the process. That was twice. And in 2001 we set out to finish the job of liberation, and once again save the world. Some say arrogant, I say noble. Our military is undefeatable. It can pay any price, and bear any burden. Even now it inflicts 60 times the casualties it absorbs. Losses the evil enemies of freedom can not hope to absorb. The war on terror is already won; it’s just a matter of time, unless. Unless YOU DEMOCRATS refuse. Unless your will evaporates. Unless you ignore the evidence! You would retreat into our Nation in cowardly isolation, hoping to anticipate the next blow. Buying off the evil until it is at our doorstep and can not be driven off. You, like your fellow socialist European brothers have lived in freedom for so long, you forget what it takes. You forget the pure evidence that was September the 11th. You forget you can never hide; the enemy will seek you out till you are found. You’ve heard your own rhetoric for so long and so loud that it’s shrill sound has deafened you to the obvious. Only when HIS home is under siege. Till his own countrymen hunt him down and irradiate him like a cancer, will we be free of terror. When the whole Arab world, like the whole of Europe, is at peace with us. And right in the heart of the Middle East, we are building our case. Amassing our evidence. You forget that if you are sheep the wolf always comes calling, for ever. You are doubting even now, confronted by your arrogant hypocrisy. Liberating the planet costs too much. Too many lives, too much money, it’s too hard, I might be inconvenienced, it might get my cable TV turned off, it’s impossible, I can’t even imagine it.

You can’t even imagine it, and you won’t even try. I’m telling you it’s your personal responsibility to try, and you may have to die for it. That’s what our country costs. Now pay up, I do every day, the money where my mouth is. Are our bumper stickers sinking in yet? Now you know what he means by “Hard Work.” And you know it, and you capitulate to the evil and give up, and hope your wall here at home will protect you. Ask all the dead Jews from 1938 on how well that works. That’s evidence! But you will ignore my argument. You’ll call me a Neo-Con or crazy. I’ll call you dead. Because in- action will kill you, just ask New York. I’ve been where the enemy comes from, I’ve actually talked to them. And they are coming here. They are coming for you. And John Kerry’s silly threats to kill them don’t scare them one bit, because suicide bombers can’t be threatened with death. What does scare the hell out of them is the idea that their whole world, the whole of Islam, will be set free. These monsters hijacked their own religion and hope to drive it to the rigns of power. But totalitarian theocracy can never exist in a free country with a Second Amendment.

John Kerry would be a good sheriff, he’d get public enemy number one. I set my sights a little higher. And so does George W. Bush. I’m voting Republican. You will vote for the the twentieth century’s Neville Chamberlain, coming home from his summit waving his paper saying peace in our time. I won’t say George Bush is Winston Churchill, but I wish you people would show one tenth the backbone the Brit’s showed in his day. But I think Bush just might win, and then our EVIDENCE will shut you up forever. Party of compassion MY ASS!

Every single thing you're saying might be true but here's the thing: W. and almost the entirety of his administration have proved themselves untrustworthy on nearly every issue. Cheney lied, blatantly, during the debates the other night (never met John Edwards, often heads the Senate) about shit he didn't even need to lie about. Why? Because he wanted to make the other guy look bad, nothing more. So if they're willing to lie about petty shit like that, why should anyone believe them about the stuff that really matters? There's a credibility gap here the size of the grand canyon. I know you guys try to say the same things about Kerry, and while you can distort things and say that he's a flip-flopper, you can't say he's a liar. Bush says people know where he stands and in a way he's right. We know that he and his cronies are willing to do anything--ANYTHING--to maintain power. This is why he is winning by a landslide now, and this is why he is going to lose in three weeks. Americans are stupid, but you can't fool too many of em for this long.

ALa:

Why would you want to go to a rally or whatever it was you went to when the Bush administration has made it clear that they stifle free speech at these rallies, threatening people with arrest if they don't leave. Kerry doesn't do this. Kerry doesn't have them sign loyalty oaths. Doesn't this bother you as a former punk rock kid?

2. We were asked to sign nothing -nor were we questioned -nor were the protestors outside asked to leave.

PS I wrote something to you over at Lefty's....

Jericho Brown said...

Just because you weren't asked to sign something at that particular function doesn't mean that others weren't at other functions. That's not spin, that's truth. And as the saying goes, injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. And you endorse it. 'Splain.

Jerhico

He said something to make the other guy look bad. Hmmmm.... Well, guess what, you're right. Welcome to politics my friend. Indeed you are learning or begining to except the truth. John Kerry, George Bush, Dick Chaney and John Edwards are in fact, politiceans. This is our political system, or what I should say it has degenerated into. This is spin. A benifit of my civillian employment is that by working as a baliff in this courhouse whilest I train for my future, I get to see county commisioners, judges, sheriffs, and prosecuting attorney, all elected, do this same thing on a much smaller scale. Indeed, high minded idealism that I think I smell wafting off of your post didn't survive the founders of our country. And this is a good thing. "What!?" you say, all indignant. Thats terrible!

Nope.

Its great. It makes government painfully inefficent, and slow. In general it makes it nearly impossible for the damn thing to function at all. You've noticed this, did you think you were the only one? It is grand in my book.

take a deep breath

What I'm saying is that while it flounders in ineficiantcy, it isn't controlling me. I beleive whole heartedly that government is rarely the answer. Government sucks. The nazis had a killer (no pun intended) efficent government, and thats my point. If the darn mess could get anything really done, whats to stop its members from say, telling me how to live my life. I adopted the republicans, and the thing that irks me more than anything about my party is it's nasty tendancy to regulate private life. Especially what I do naked. Now imagine if they could acomplish something quickly, with hardly a road block. The sick, twisted, ideas now policy of others, controlling your dick. Is that sinking in yet? Now imagine if your democrats had their way. DEAR GOD! The taxes, we'd have no small buisness left. We'd have government health care! We would get the shit kicked out of us in this war. Lord heavens, we wouldn't be in this war, because we'd be a big huge Sweeden. Now maybe you like big hopefully benevolant brother watching out for you, maybe you DIG Sweeden. I don't. But buddy, I know politics, and gridlock is great. Gridlock means fewer laws and taxes and regulation which destroys freedom and commerce. Both partys would ruin this country if we gave either side thier own way, that's why we have two parties to begin with. thats the benifit of an outside perspective. Don't get closer, step waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back, and you'll see what I mean. Now in this madness we call an electoral system, man's nature to compete with itself comes into play, and the spin is born. Spin is a new term, but it's as old as Lincoln. What I mean is, they don't "lie." they take stuff completely out of context, they take the facts in and turn them upside down and inside out and when they fire it back our way...pooof, it says whatever they want it to. Cheney never met Edwards on the Senate floor, pure and simple. That was the cold hard fact, didn't sound that way, did it? Spin. "Bush lied about WMD." horse crap. He bought the wrong intelligence, and so did Kerry, so did everybody else. Spin. You have to look REAL deep and find out whats behind the sales pitch. Not much of a selling stratagy to say the differance between Kerry and Bush is nuances in their tax plans, health care ideas, and minor blips with forign policy. Kerry and Bush's plan for the war, suprize, they are nearly identical. They are practically the same person. Its not a consperacy, it's just the right thing to do is useually obvious. Its hard to argue against common sense, and politics were reality TV before the radio was invented. Its how you package that common sense and emphisise the minor nuances that get you ellected. I like George Bush's minor differances better than Kerry's. The differance is who financed thier campain, and more importantly who is financing the next one, thats what molds administration. Who can garuntee the encombant 4 more years, or the Senator a neat new turn at guiding history. The real pollitical skill is to take the similaritys and differances and spin them in your favor, thats politics, thats thier job. And 9 times out of 10 it comes down to a popularity contest. Yuk! The funny thing is, Bush and Kerry will laugh about this the same as two sports teams who just finished a game together, and the winner and looser will have no hard feelings. Shake hands, good game. They take it serious, but not half as serious as we do.

This isn't cynical, it's the way it has to be so we can live free. Government only grows, and the biger it gets the more OPRESSIVE it gets. Thank god for gridlock. Its built in safty valve for tyranny. I've stated why I'm voting Bush, you've stated why not. At best you have a "hunch" what Kerry will actually do in office. You have no idea what the congress will LET him do. I like Bush's policy, and I got a good idea what he can get done. You can't stand Bush. Something about him bugs your ass and it always has. You've never liked him, and at some point you began to hate him. Focus on the policy man, and when this war is over with vote libertarian.

I'm throwing a party, which I'm paying for. Luckly my job pays me a special personal pary for myself and friends fund. What a cool job.

But these crazy people always show up. they have long dredlocks and green hair. Or worse the college proffesor guy comes too, and yells at me and calls me Hitler in front of my daughters. What dicks. Don't they know I'm paying for this hall? Don't they get it that this party is for MY friends only? Party crashers, go home!

I bet Jerhico, that's how Bush feels. He paid for it, so he can kick out who ever he wants. That's not a violation of the first ammendment anymore than you booting me for reading ann coulter in your living room while dodging the mere cat and the ozone groopies and the PETA environmentalist wakos. Dude, he rented that place, so temporaraly, its his to do with all his will.
Last, thats not spin.

Jericho: I don't endorse it & I also don't believe it. Not letting in known aggitators is fine with me...Do you honestly think if I showed up at a Kerry rally with a 'Swift Boat Vets' t-shirt and a sign that said "War Criminal' that I would be let in? Of course I wouldn't. And if they are are doing the things that you are saying elsewhere -why wouldn't they be doing it here in the LIBERAL CORRUPT MOVEON.ORG Lovin' land of Philly? 'Splain!

Jericho Brown said...

Free: Once again, your comments might have weight if they weren't so obviously disputed by the facts. People have been arrested at rallies paid for with federal tax dollars, which does make it a first amendment issue. At an RNC rally is one thiong, but too many of these events are paid for with tax dollars, and therefore the gestapo tactics are not only uncalled for, but are immoral.

ALa: You don't believe what? The loyalty oaths are a matter of public record. There's no disputing that they were used by Republicans at public rallies. There's also no disputing that people wearing Kerry buttons or stickers or t-shirts were kept out of tax-funded rallies for W. This did not happen to you because you, of course, were not wearing a Kerry shirt/button/sticker. Point is, since these tactics are a matter of public record and Kerry does NOT do these sorts of things at his rallies (he has even acknowledged the Bush supporters at his rallies), how can you, who I assume is a supporter of free speech, also support an administration that shamelessly uses such tactics?

Bigandmean said...

Jericho,
The First Amendment right of free speech is commonly misunderstood. There is no right to say anything you want to say, anytime you want to say it.

It does not include the right to disrupt your political opponent's events or trespass on their property. Each party has every right to ban certain individuals they believe might attempt to disrupt their proceedings.

The US Supreme Court has classified speech as either: fully protected by the First Amendment, unprotected by the First Amendment or limited protected. Limited protected speech may be limited by the government depending on the time, place and manner of the speech.

The above refers to protection of speech from intrusion by the government. Private persons or organizations may make their own rules and are not restricted by the First Amentment. For instance, you may make the rules regarding what type of speech you will or will not allow in your own home just as you may decide who may or may not be allowed to enter.

Political parties have the same rights. Just because the president receives Secret Service protection doesn't mean that everything he attends is an official government function or that he forfeits his rights to deny his opponents the chance to be disruptive.

Cigarette Smoking Man from the X-Files said...

JB, you're quite simply wrong. Federal matching funds go to both parties' campaigns, and both parties firmly and urgently escort out any agitators that try to interrupt and/or usurp their respective rallies. It's done by both sides, and is really a non-issue, and yet another left-wing-whacko lie.

Jericho Brown said...

Smoker & B&M: Youse guys are wrong. It's one thing to escort out troublemakers, quite another thing to threaten with arrest or actually arrest people that are just standing there watching or booing their disapproval at certain points, which happens at Kerry rallies all the time when Bush supporters show up. You guys can try to act like you support free speech all you want but fact of the matter is that it is wrong what your side is doing and true to form none of you can admit when anything your side does is wrong. You guys are always right. A whole half-nation of people who have finally gotten as good as Jesus. A whole half-nation of Christ clones, sinless, blameless.
